After 10 years of serving Choctaw County, The Choctaw Chronicle has closed its doors. The weekly newspaper officially closed Friday, January 22. It boasted a circulation of around 1,400 at the time of its closing.

Debbie Anderson, Chronicle office manager, said, "It was just time," about the newspaper closure.

The Choctaw Chronicle opened in 1999 under the direction of Chuck Blaine. Robert Anderson Jr. took the lead role of the newspaper in 2006 with Blaine's departure.

It was a full member of Mississippi Press Association.

Editor's note: The Choctaw Plaindealer, owned by Emmerich Newspapers, has no association with the Choctaw Chronicle and will continue to serve Choctaw County as it has for over 123 years. The Plaindealer is the newspaper of record for Choctaw County and one of the oldest publications in the state.
