State Champion Steer Rider Recognized

Colton Mewbourn, 12 years old of Ackerman, MS, has lived in Choctaw County all his life.  He loves his home town and appreciates all his friends and family who help him live his dream of bull riding.  Colton is a three-time state of Mississippi champion in MJHSRA (Mississippi Junior High Rodeo Association).

Colton started competing last year for the title in September.  He traveled all over the great state of Mississippi representing Choctaw County.  He left June 6th, 2017 for the finals in Hattiesburg, MS where he competed in steer riding.  He checked in June 8th to get his back number.  Colton rode June 8th and 9th.

One June 10th, he had his awards banquet where he received his buckle for State Champion Steer Rider.  He was also voted and will serve as the Junior Vice President for his junior high rodeo team.  Colton is honored to receive Vice President and looks forward to the 2017-2018 season.  Colton moves up next year to big bulls in junior high.  Colton wants to thank all his sponsors, friends, and family for helping him reach his goals.  He also thanks his Lord and Savior for keeping him safe and allowing him to do what he loves.

Colton’s parents are Kristi and Carroll Mewbourn of Ackerman and grandparents Lynn and Liz Black of McCool and Catherine and Ken Mullen of Little Rock, AK.
