Choctaw County scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to blow open a close game and take a 13-5 win over Crystal Springs on Friday night in the MHSAA Class 3A State Baseball Playoffs.
The second game of the best-of-three series, which was scheduled for Saturday in Crystal Springs, was rained out until Monday. If Crystal Springs won on Monday, there was set to be a third game in Ackerman on Tuesday.
The winner of the CCHS-Crystal Springs series was set to take on the West Marion-Morton winner in the second round this weekend.
On Friday, CCHS scored three runs in the bottom of the first, only to have Crystal Springs push across a pair in the top of the third. CCHS scored once in the fourth and three in the fifth to go up 7-3, before Crystal Springs scored three in the top of the sixth.
Braden Hines led the winners at the plate with two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Dawson Jones pitched five strong innings, striking out six and allowing just three hits and one earned run to earn the win. Austin Telano earned the save.
Adam Threadgill and Austin Fulgham picked up two hits each for the Chargers, while Woody Vowell and Art Norwood each doubled and Brice Utley added a single. Noah Lawson drove in two runs for CCHS, while Telano scored three times and Threadgill twice.
