The Choctaw County Economic Development District Board has added two new members to the board. Karla Beard and Paul Courtney were appointed by the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors.
Beard was appointed in April to serve a three-year term. She replaces Carey Bunkelman, whose term expired in March. Courtney was appointed in June to serve a three-year term. He replaces Robert Anderson, Jr., whose term expired in March also.
The District Board of Trustees are: Ron Bennett – President, Ellen Turnipseed – Vice President, Juli Hughes – Secretary, Kenya Cistrunk, Gradie Ervin, Philip Evans, Nancy Jackson, Geneva Pratt and Dannie Reed.

Karla Beard has served on the Choctaw County Economic Development District Board of Trustees for five months. She is new to the District Board but already enjoys serving on the board.
“I’ve enjoyed being part of a collaborative team that works to make our community a better place to live,” said Karla.
She is married to Stewart Glen Beard, Jr. and they four children; Trace (13), Luke (11), Kate and Kami (9). They live in French Camp and attend Bethsaida Baptist Church.
Karla is a home health nurse with Gentiva Home Health. She enjoys reading, watching SEC football, cooking with her kids, working in the yard and being with her family.
Paul Courtney has served on the Choctaw County Economic Development District Board of Trustees for four months. He is ready to continue to make our home a great place to work and live.
“Getting to work with other community members to help sustain and improve our county’s economic viability and to continue to make Choctaw County a great place to work and live,” said Paul.
He also serves as the current Mississippi High School Activities Association District IV President and is a member of the Mississippi Association of Coaches.
Paul is married to Heather Orr Courtney and he has a daughter- Lily Courtney (10) and a stepson- Paxton McHan (17). They live in the Salem Community, west of Chester and attend Salem Independent Methodist Church.
Paul is a P.E. Teacher/Coach at Choctaw County High School. He enjoys hunting and sports in his spare time.
