HCC Men, Women hope to continue strong hoops start

Through the first 10 games of the season, the Holmes Community College Bulldogs are holding an 8-2 record and a 1-1 North Division record, while the women are 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the North.

The men and women were set to return to action on Tuesday at Southern-Shreveport. The first home game of second semester is Jan. 7 versus Hinds at 8 p.m. Division play begins on Jan. 11 at home versus Itawamba Community College.

The HCC men picked up wins over Copiah-Lincoln, Baton Rouge, Jones, William Carey, Pearl River, Hinds, Southern-Shreveport and Coahoma and fell to Northwest and Southwest Tenn. by a total of seven points.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up wins over Baton Rouge, LSU-Eunice, Pearl River, Hinds, Southern-Shreveport, Coahoma and Southwest Tenn. and fell to Copiah-Lincoln, Jones and Northwest.

Sophomore guard Daryl Macon leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 24.4 points per game while Cedric Harper has a 13.3 per game average and D’Angelo Richardson has 10.4 points per game. Macon is shooting 49.5 percent from the floor, 41.7 percent from three-point range and 84.5 percent from the free throw line. Harper is shooting 56.3 percent from the floor and 66 percent from the free throw line while Richardson is shooting 41.9 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from the three-point line and 59.3 percent from the free throw line.

Harper leads the Bulldogs with 77 rebounds or a 7.7 per game average. Richardson leads in assists with 4.4 assists per game and Macon had 3.4 assists per game.

As a team, the Bulldogs are shooting 49.3 percent from the floor, 36.8 percent from the three-point line and 73.4 percent from the free throw line. Holmes is averaging 79.8 points per game and giving up 49.4 points per game. The Bulldogs bring in 32.7 rebounds per game and is averaging 13.7 assists and 7.3 steals per game.

Sophomore guard Aja Williams leads the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 20.5 points per game while Tiffany Jones has a 14.3 per game average, Minyone Hill has a 10.9 per game average and Kawaii Perry has a 9 points per game. Williams is shooting 52.5 percent from the floor, 25.5 percent from three-point range and 54.2 percent from the free throw line. Jones is shooting 45.6 percent from the floor and 53.1 percent from the free throw line while Hill is shooting 32.6 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from the three-point line and 54 percent from the free throw line. Perry is shooting 41.8 percent from the floor, 24 percent from the three-point line and 75 percent from the free throw line.

Jones leads the Lady Bulldogs with 110 rebounds or an 11 per game average. Williams averages 5.8 rebounds per game while Cortrice Golden is bringing in 5.4 rebounds per game and Perry and Laricka Morgan are bringing in 5.3 rebounds per game. Hill leads in assists with 5.4 assists per game and Perry leads in steals with 2.4 per game.

As a team, the Lady Bulldogs are shooting 43.3 percent from the floor, 23.8 percent from the three-point line and 57.7 percent from the free throw line. Holmes is averaging 75.8 points per game and giving up 49.1 points per game. The Lady Bulldogs bring in 44.9 rebounds per game and is averaging 17 assists and 11.4 steals per game.
