Jack-O-Lantern Jam will take place on Saturday, October 24, beginning at 5 p.m. in downtown Ackerman at the walking track and the parking lot on Main Street in Ackerman.
To help make this event a huge success, the support of the community is needed. There are several ways you can participate in Jack-O-Lantern Jam. Decorate your trunk or a truck bed and hand out candy to kids. Use trunk or treat as an opportunity to advertise your business or an outreach opportunity for church, organization or club. Businesses, organizations, clubs or individuals are encouraged to setup a trunk. No fees to enter but you must register with the Chamber of Commerce.
All participants in trunk or treat will be judged for the best decorated/themed trunk. Two awards will be given, first and second place. Last year’s winners were The McHan Family Circus and Forget-Me-Not Florist’s Witch University.
Carnival games are back this year. If you would like to host a fun activity or game with the kids, let the Chamber of Commerce know. There are no fees to enter carnival games.
You need to register for the trunk-or-treat and games with the Chamber by Monday, October 19.
There are many family fun activities planned for the evening, starting with the 3rd Annual Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Contest hosted by the Choctaw County Master Gardeners. Participants must bring their pumpkin already carved or decorated with them to the walking track at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 24. Adults and children can participate in the contest. No fees to enter. For more information on this contest call the Choctaw County Extension Office at 285-6337.
The 6th Annual Scarecrow Contest will be back at the walking track in Ackerman this year. All scarecrows must be set up at the walking track by Monday, October 19, between 4–6 p.m. The scarecrows will remain on exhibit through November 1. At Jack-O-Lantern Jam the public will be able to vote for their favorite scarecrow. The scarecrow trail is sponsored by the Choctaw County Master Gardeners. No fees to enter. For more information on this contest call the Choctaw County Extension Office at 285-6337.
Coming back for another year is the Costume Contest for kids and adults. The Ackerman 20th Century Club is sponsoring the contest. Look for more details soon.
Another activity at Jack O’ Lantern Jam will be the outdoor movie. The short film, Casper’s Halloween Special, will be start at dark. Bring your blankets and sit back and enjoy the movie.
