The Choctaw Nursing & Rehabilitation Center recognized and celebrated National Nursing Home Week 2015 from May 10-16. This was the facility’s first celebration of the occasion while under the new management team of Sunflower Management Company. Residents and staff enjoyed a week full of activities, fun, food while recognizing the service of volunteers of the facility.
The week of fun and festivities began with the annual Balloon Launch by the residents on May 11. The event allows residents to enjoy the Mississippi weather all the while celebrating the occasion. The day also featured “Favorite T-shirt Day”, which residents showed support of their favorite sporting teams.
Later that afternoon, an Ice Cream Social was held in the nursing home’s cafeteria for the residents and staff members. The event allowed for residents and staff to enjoy the goodness of the cool treat while socializing with each other.
May 12 was “Western Day” at the nursing home, with residents wearing hats and bandanas. May 13 was “Mexican Day” or “Wear Red” day, with residents wearing sombreros and served Mexican dishes for lunch as well.
May 14 was classified as “Hat Day”, giving residents the opportunity to wear unique as well as entertaining headgear around the home.
That afternoon the Nursing Home Auxiliary was proud to hold a Staff Appreciation Tea to recognize the hard work of the staff. Volunteers Glenda Whittington, Millie Newman, and Anne McCool were on hand to serve the staff with a table full of delicious snacks to show their appreciation of their dedication and caring of the residents in the home.
The ladies also held a drawing for a door prize for the staff during the tea. The winner of the door prize, which was a lovely houseplant, was staff member Monique Knowles.
The week wrapped up with T-Shirt Day on May 15, with the staff showing off their custom t-shirts provided by the administration of the nursing home. At noon that same day a cookout was held for the residents, which featured hamburgers and hot dogs fresh off the grill.
