Holmes CC basketball teams have solid 2014 portion of season

The Holmes Community College men’s basketball team will take a break during the Christmas holidays after finishing the Fall semester with a 2-0 North Division record and a 6-4 record overall. The Lady Bulldogs are 8-2 overall and 1-1 in North Division play.

The HCC men and women will return to play on Jan. 6 in Utica against Hinds Community College and then will host Southwest Mississippi Community College on Jan. 8.

The Holmes men are averaging 76.3 points per game in all games and 87 points per game in North Division contests.

Freshman guard Daryl Macon is leading the Bulldogs in scoring with a 25.2 points per game average. He’s averaging 29.5 points per game in North Division contests. Macon leads the team with a 50 percent average from behind the three-point line, has 42 assists so far on the season and is shooting 87 percent from the free throw line.

Sophomore guard Marcus Washington is scoring 11.7 points per game in all games and 12.0 points in North Division contests. Washington has 74 rebounds on the season and has a 6.7 rebound per game average to lead the team. Freshman forward Dietrich Taylor has 49 rebounds and is averaging six points per game but is averaging 14 points per game in North Division action.

Freshman forward Cedric Harper leads the team in blocks with 17 and has 63 total rebounds thus far on the season.

On the women’s side, the Lady Bulldogs are averaging 72.4 points per game overall and 75 points per game in North Division play. The Lady Bulldog opponents are averaging 50 points per game and 61 points per game in North Division play.

Freshman guard Aja Williams leads the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 16.2 points per game and 22 points per game in North Division play. She has 46 rebounds and 12 assists thus far on the season.

Sophomore point guard Carmesha Nalls is averaging 13 points per game and 10.5 in North Division play. She’s shooting 36.2 percent from behind the three-point line and has 23 assists.

Freshman guard Minyone Hill is averaging 9.7 points per game but is averaging 11.5 in North Division play. She leads the team in assists with 44.

Sophomore forward Taylor Johnson leads the team in rebounds with 74 while sophomore guard Tayanna Purnell has 63 rebounds. LaShonda Wilson has 51 rebounds and leads the team in blocks with 15.
