The French Camp Academy slow-pitch softball team used a pair of homers off the bat of Carlin West to power its way to a 13-3 win over visiting Coffeeville on Thursday afternoon.

The win improved the Lady Panthers’ record to 2-5 on the season. The steadily improving FCA squad has a couple tough tests in store this week as the Lady Panthers were set to host Noxapater on Tuesday before visiting perennial MHSAA Class 2A power East Webster on Thursday.
“We are really excited about it,” said second-year FCA head softball coach Sarah Skidmore. “We have really improved over last year and it is exciting to see the improvement that has been taking place in the team.”
Skidmore said Kaley Edwards has been solid on the mound, averring only a walk a game and noted that second baseman Brookelyn Box had a huge game defensively against Coffeeville, recording five assists.
Carley Pender had two hits and a pair of RBIs for the winners against Coffeeville, while Skylar Busbea smacked a pair of good hits as well. West and Anna Box had FCA’s lone hits in a 7-0 setback to Louisville last Monday.
