The last weekend in July was a fun time for members of the Whitmire girls of Choctaw County whose extended families
gathered to celebrate several birthdays at the home of David and Martha Mills with a water fun day on Saturday.. Two water slides were rented and set up, one on the front lawn for the little ones and one on the pond for the older children and adults. Hamburgers and trimmings were served at lunch time and ice cream and birthday cake later. Cold drinks, chips, and watermelon was available all day.
The Whitmire girls are Sandra Power, Annabel Dunlap, Martha Mills and the late Linda Ingram.
Sandra and Billy Power live in Ocean Springs but have a lovely cabin on the pond just past the home of Martha and David. Annabel lives up Spay Road just past the old homeplace and Wayne Ingram and his present wife Gloria live there.
Sandra and Billy Power recently built an addition to their cabin and were able to sleep all of their extended family who came up from the coast for the Water Fun Day, their daughter Stephanie and Hans Ruouse and their children Nickolas, Jonathan (and his girlfriend Rachel Taylor; their son Doug Power and wife Marcie and children, Victoria and Amelia.
Annabel and Dave Dunlap had both their sons, Chuck and Daniel, their wives and children with them for the weekend. Chuck and Amber and their two children live in Birmingham. Daniel and Lacey and their little boy live in north Mississippi (not sure just where),
Wayne and Linda’s two girls came, Shawn with her husband and grandchildren and Dawn with her daughter Katie. Sorry, I do not have all the names.
Martha and David had kept their two grandsons for the week as their daughter Mollie had to return to TN and enter Centenial Hospital in Nashville. Mollie had looked forward to the Water Fun Day and was glad her boys, Dax and Tyler, got to enjoy the day even if she could not.
Mollie was able to go home from the hospital for a short period, but is now back in the hospital. Martha left Sunday to stay with the boys and get them started in school. Mollie is to take another chemo treatment Wednesday of this week.
Several of David’s family also attended the Water Fun Day including this writer, Julie with Aria Gordon , Julie’s granddaughter, whom she was baby sitting for the day. Carol Clark, Elena Gilbert and son Braden, Dallas and Kim Mills and their three girls.
Colby Miller, son of Anna Whitmire, was also there taking all who wished mud riding in the pond on a ATV.
Jonathan Mills was on hand to give horse back rides.
