Choctaw County’s Distinguished Young Woman, Anna Ruth Box,
gave a glimpse of what will happen at the state program in Meridian during her trunk show that was held July 17, at the Choctaw County Library. The preliminaries for the state program will be July 24 and July 25 in Meridian.
The Twentieth Century Club sponsors the scholarship program each spring. A representative is chosen and she prepares for the state program, which is a week-long event, held in July. The trunk show gave those who aren’t able to make it to Meridian the opportunity to find out what happens in Meridian.
Box modeled several outfits that she will be wearing at all the activities in Meridian, including her host family party attire and Lounge party attire. Box also performed her talent which is a vocal rendition of the song “Popular” from the Broadway Musical Wicked.
Box practiced her interview skills in front of the audience. She has also been able to prepare for the physical fitness routine since the routine DVD was given early. Box has put in many hours of work to prepare for the experience.
Ginny Lucas, Program Chairman, shared the basic itinerary of what Box would be doing once in Meridian. Not only will Box have countless hours of rehearsal, but she will also attend a Judges Party and several others at Love’s Kitchen, a local food pantry. While in Meridian, Anna will stay with a host family that will help provide anything she might need during the week.
Box is contestant #11 and she will perform her talent on Thursday night. On Friday night, July 25, she will compete in Self-Expression and fitness. Finals for the top ten will be on Saturday night.
Anna can receive best wishes in the form of cards, letters, emails, and flowers in care of: Choctaw County’s DYW-Anna Box P. O. Box 582 Meridian, MS 39302. Her email address for the week is: email@example.com
