‘Sunshine Benefit’ to honor teen

With the memory of the loss of 17-year-old Ackerman resident Corey McPherson still in the hearts of Choctaw Countians, a “Sunshine” Benefit will be held in his honor on June 28th at the Weir Arena in Weir.

The rodeo-style event will begin at 11 a.m. and have a gate fee of $1 per person. There will be horse rides for $3 or two rides for $5. From 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. there will be training barrels for $3. Also featured will be a Horse/Cow Pattie Bingo $10 a square (five different games), and a Silent Auction to be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. (winners announced at 3 p.m.)

At 2 p.m., there will be a special time to remember Corey McPherson. Following the tribute, there will be Jackpot Barrels for $25 and Youth Jackpot Barrels for $10 (buckle rewarded for Jackpot Barrels). Barrels, poles, and arena races of all ages will be offered for $3.

Other activities include Kids Boot Race, Balloon race, Panty Race, Single & Double Barrel Pick Up, and lots more for $1.
