Kevin Raftery of Ackerman posted a time of 19:23.0 to win the Run For The Hills 5K held in Ackerman on Saturday morning. The course featured a mostly flat terrain for the first two miles, with three progressively tougher hills at the close of the race.
James McClure of Ackerman was second with a time of 20:19.0 while 14-year-old Rey A. Barragan of Carthage was third with a time of 21:25.5. Raftery, 27, had a solid pace of 6:15 per mile, while the 39-year-old McClure had a pace of 6:33 and Barragan had a pace of 6.55.
Nanih Waiya High School standout Kenley McMullen, 16, took first in the female division with a time of 24:57.6 with a pace of 8:03 per mile. Whitney White of Big Creek was second with a time of 27:01.5, while Erika Thomas was third with a time of 27:05.6.
Larry Sykes of Brandon blew away the field in the walk division. The 69-year-old posted a time of 36:58.3. Finishing second was Austin Bishop of Meridian with a time of 38:37.0.
Cheryl McIntire of French Camp won the women’s division of the 5K walk with a time of 40:12.0, while Barbara Bishop of Meridian was second with a time of 40:12.8.
