From press and staff reports
The residents of Choctaw County will now be able to show their support for the Charger Nation in a special way. They will be able to order specialize tags with the school’s name, color and logo embedded. It is a new and unique way to show support for their school.
In order to purchase a Choctaw County Charger tag you must fill out an application and bring $31.00 cash to the Tax Collector’s office no later than October 1, 2014. They are setting that deadline because everything has to be sent on spreadsheet by the school to the MS Department of Revenue by October 15, 2014. They will begin making them in January. If you have a tag and it’s not your renewal time, that’s ok.
When the tags are here, they will simply swap your current tag for the charger tag. It will have the same renewal time as your current tag. If you forget to bring in your current tag you will not be able to get the Charger tag until you do. If something happens and you don’t have the vehicle you put on the application anymore, that’s ok too. When you come into the office and give us your name you can put that tag on any vehicle you choose to put it on at that time.
You will have 60 days after the school advises taxpayers that the tags are in the Tax Collector’s office to pick up your tag. If you wait beyond 60 days you will be required to pay the special fee of $31.00 again.
The school will get $24 of the $31 for each tag sold. If there are any questions about the process, please feel free to call the office at 662-285-6320.
“This is a great way to show your support,” said supporters.
As of June 4, 2014, one day after they began to pre-sell, they have sold four. They are a long way from the 300 that they must sell but they are excited to be able to offer the chance to support your schools and teams.
“I would like to thank our Representative Joey Hood for helping make it possible for Choctaw County Schools to have a specialty tag,” said Lori Kerr, Choctaw Co. Tax Assessor. “We could not have done it if he had not been there to support us. Thank you!!”
