The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Pine Tree Music Fest will be held this Saturday, June 7, in downtown Ackerman. The festival will feature a day of fun activities and events for the entire family which include a Runnin’ for the Hills 5K Run/Walk, Pet Show, Car and Truck Show, Scrappers Quilt Showcase, Bingo, Fiddle Contest, Petting Zoo, Train Rides, Kids’ World, and entertainment.
Main Street in Ackerman will be lined with a variety of arts and crafts vendors. Almost 50 vendors are expected to set up shop in downtown Ackerman along with plenty of food vendors and the Farmers’ Market and Treasure Alley vendors. The festival opens at 9:00am with opening ceremony at 10am.
A total of $1000 in cash will be given away during the festival. To qualify to win, you must be 18 years or older, and upon winning, present a photo id. You must be present to win and you can only register once. In order to have a chance to win, you will need to stop by the festival headquarters booth any time during the festival.
“The festival committee has done an outstanding job this year from renaming the festival, adding more activities, a great music lineup, variety of food, arts and crafts vendors to bringing back Choctaw County talent for your listening enjoyment,” states Donna McKay, Festival Coordinator. “Bring your lawn chair and get ready to enjoy the great music from Bryan Hayes & The Retrievers at 4:45pm and featured entertainer Mark Box at 7:00pm.”

Scrappers Quilt Guild will showcase their quilts during the Pine Tree Music Fest Saturday, June 7th in the Town of Ackerman’s boardroom in city hall on Main Street. A Viewer’s Choice will be chosen by the quilt viewers. Make plans to stop by and see the beautiful showcase of quilts!
The Billy Joe Box Fiddle Contest will be held during this year’s Choctaw County Pine Tree Music Fest on June 7 at 1 p.m.
Registration will begin at noon with a junior division (age 17 & under) and adult division (18+). There will be $400 in cash prizes. There will be no entry fee for contestants and all musicians are to perform two songs (hoedown & waltz) not to exceed two minutes.

The annual Ackerman Twentieth Century Club Pet Show is open to all ages and pets. The Pet Show will be held next to the library and all proceeds from the event are donated to the library. Registration for the Pet Show will begin at 9 a.m. with the show starting at9:30 a.m. There is a $2 entry fee for each of the 18 possible categories to enter.
Ribbons will be awarded to the winners in each category with an overall best of show winner being awarded at the end. Registration forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce office.
5K Run/Walk will be the first event of the festival on Saturday, June 7. French Camp Academy and Camp of the Rising Son are sponsoring the event. This year’s event is not only for runners, but for walkers too. The entire family can participate together!
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. on race day with the race beginning at 7: 30 a.m. in front of the pavilion at the walking track.
Prizes will be awarded to the overall male and female runners and walkers.

This year’s Kids’ World will have activities for all ages of kids and even a few activities the adults may enjoy. There will be a rock wall, bungee jump and mechanical bull all ages can enjoy. The mechanical bull will be controlled by an operator who can increase or decrease the intensity for each rider. There will be several different inflatables for kids to play on plus a water slide. There will be your traditional jump house and new inflatables like an obstacle course and many more surprises.
The Petting Zoo will be held at the corner of East Quinn and Commerce Streets on the shaded lot to keep the animals cool.
The Petting Zoo will have chickens, ducks, rabbits, goats, miniature donkeys, horses and mules, along with a few unusual, surprise animals. Kids can get up close and personal with the animals in the Petting Zoo by feeding them and pony rides.
The Choctaw County Cruisers will be hosting a Car and Truck Show around the Choctaw County Courthouse starting at 8 a.m. Registration for the Car and Truck Show is $25 and will include a t-shirt. Judging for the Car and Truck Show will be from 11 a.m. to – 1 p.m.with door prizes being announced from 1 pm– 1:30 p.m. First, second and third place winners will be announced in each category. Crowd favorite activity Bingo at Pine Tree Music Fest will start at 3 p.m. at Pap’s. When the temperature is rising in the afternoon come cool off inside and play a few games of Bingo.
Bingo is sponsored by the Ackerman Twentieth Century Club each year. Tickets are 50 cents and most games cost one ticket to play. There may be several two ticket or higher games with a bigger door prize at stake. Play every game of Bingo with a $25 all afternoon pass. The winner of every game of Bingo receives a prize donated by local businesses.
The annual Choctaw County Farmers Market kicks off at Pine Tree Music Fest each year. The Farmers Market is sponsored by the MSU Extension Service – Choctaw County. The Farmers Market features items such as tomatoes, sweet potatoes, okra, squash, eggplant, peppers, green beans, butter beans, greens, watermelons, radishes and blueberries.

The Pine Tree Music Fest is pleased to add Game Time (mobile video game theater) as part of entertainment for this year’s festival.
What is a mobile video game theater? It is a game truck trailer with four widescreen high-def TVs cover the walls in front of custom stadium seats with built-in vibration motors synched to the on-screen action with speakers in front and back. Everything is linked, so 16 players can play the same game — or against each other.
Play as a team enjoy different games, because there are plenty to choose from — all the newest games from Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 with a “Game Coach” to help anyone who needs it.
Since there are no single-player games, it’s the ultimate party for a group to have fun together at the Pine Tree Music Fest. There is only one other in Mississippi. Come and have fun at the Pine Tree Music Fest.
