FCA’s McDaniel takes state pole vault title

French Camp Academy’s Chelsey McDaniel soared to a height of 10 feet to win the girls pole vault championship at the MHSAA Class 1A State Track Meet held in Pearl on May 12.

McDaniel also took third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.23, while teammates Catherine Bell and Abigail Holman also had strong meets.

Bell was fifth in the girls 800 meters with a time of 2:50.27, while Holman was sixth in the girls 3200 meters with a time of 15:28.99. The boys 4×400 meter relay team took third with a time of 3:36.78.

The French Camp girls finished 11th in 1A with 23 points. Mound Bayou JFK won the championship with 109 points, while Coldwater was second with 81.50 and Myrtle was third with 53.

The Hinds AHS boys had little trouble winning 1A with a whopping 197 points, while Mound Bayou JFK was second with 55 and Ashland was third with 42. French Camp tallied six points to finish 21st.
