FUMC Homecoming

May 24
First Unity United Methodist Church will hold their 3rd Annual Homecoming Celebration on May 24 at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Dr. I.D. Thompson. The theme and scripture is Walking Compassionately with God/Psalm 37:23. Colors this day will be orange, peach and white. For more information call Gladys Ward at 547-6566.

4-H Fundraisers

4-H is selling Dawg Bites cookbooks for $10 and chances on a $50 Wal-Mart gift card ($1 each or 6 for $5) to raise money to send 4-H’ers to summer contests. These are available at the Extension Office or from 4-H members. For information, call the Choctaw County 4-H office at 285-6337.

New Resource Guides available

The newly published Choctaw County Resource Guide is available free of charge to all residents of Choctaw County. These are limited to one per household and are available at the Choctaw County Extension Office in the Courthouse Annex. For information, call the Extension Office at 285-6337.

Knitting/Crochet group meetings

Full Circle Knitting/Crochet group meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m.at the Choctaw County Extension Office in Ackerman.  The public is invited to attend. For more information contact the Choctaw County Extension Office at 285-6337.

Billy Joe Box Fiddle Contest

June 7, 1 p.m.
The Billy Joe Box Fiddle Contest will be held during the Choctaw Co. Pine Tree Music Festival on June 7 at 1 p.m. Registration begins at noon, with a junior division (age 17 & under) and adult division (18+). $400 in cash prizes. No entry fee for contestants, all musicians to perform two songs (hoedown & waltz) not to exceed two minutes. Contest judged by competent and qualified musicians. Retirement Reception

May 15, 3-5 p.m.
Choctaw County High School would like to invite the public to a Come-and-Go Retirement Reception for Carolyn Lindley, Bob Mamrak, Linda Reed, and Lynn Scribner on May 15 from 3-5 p.m. at the Choctaw County high School Library. Special Recognition Ceremony at 4 p.m.

Memorial Service

May 18, 10:30 a.m.
Salem Independent Methodist Church of Ackerman’s Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, May 18 at 10:30 AM. Mr. Gerald Hagen, formerly of Chester, will deliver the Memorial Address. Gerald is the son of the late Josephine Hagen Ruff. Bro. Jim Reed is the pastor of Salem Independent Church. Bring a picnic lunch; lunch time fellowship will follow immediately after the Memorial Services. No evening services held.

May 25, 10:45 a.m.
Crossroads Baptist Church will hold Memorial Day Services at Bennett Hall Auditorium on the former Wood Junior College on May 25 at 10:45 a.m. Speaker will be Shelby Gene Williamson. Bring a covered dish for lunch following the service.

Memorial Day Observance

May 26, 11 a.m.
Memorial Day will be observed May 26 at 11 a.m. at the SSG. Tommy Seary Little National Guard Armory in Ackerman under direction of the American Legion Post 82. Rev. Roy Hawkins, Associational Mission Director, Choctaw Baptist Association will be the speaker. Come out and join in the rememberance of the soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom. Everyone is invited. Refreshments will be served at 10:30 a.m.

Memorial services at Wood Springs Baptist Church will be held on Sunday, May 18. Dr. Larry Watson, church pastor, will deliver the address. Everyone is invited for services beginning at 11 a.m. and for the covered-dish lunch at noon.

The annual Memorial Service at the Salem United Methodist Church, Chester, will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Duncan Clark will be the guest speaker. All are welcome to attend this special, most holy and reverent occasion and remain with us for the “traditional” fellowship lunch to be held in the church.

Bethlehem Baptist Church of Ackerman

Annual Homecoming Festivities at Bethlehem Baptist Church Ackerman, MS will be held Sunday May 18th. Worship service is at 11 a.m. followed with a fellowship meal in the Family Life Center. Bethlehem Baptist Church is located off Hwy 12 approx. 2.6 miles east of Hwy 15.
The Psalms Trio, from Choctaw, MS will present a concert at 2 p.m. in the afternoon. The Psalms Trio is a group of Native American, Choctaw Indian singers and musicians. The public is invited to attend all functions.
