Saturday, May 10th will bring people of all ages to French Camp’s annual Pioneer Day. The festival celebrates days gone by, with living history demonstrators in period costume. The day kicks off around 9 a.m. with activities such as square dancing, a skillet toss and crosscut saw competition. There will be local arts & crafts vendors, selling wares including hand-built lawn furniture, handmade home décor items, painted gourds, and more. Other activities will include an old-fashioned kid’s carnival, pony rides, petting zoo, and boardwalk tours of the French Camp Historic District.
Music will play a big part at Pioneer Day, with WFCA FM 108 hosting a 1 p.m. concert with country/gospel group Red Roots, southern gospel trio True Heart, and bluegrass entertainer Bobby Hathorn.
Admission is free to all events. The Council House Café will be serving boxed lunches and a full supper menu, with other concessions available. Lodging is available by contacting French Camp Guest Services at (662) 547-6835.
