Lady Chargers in a must win against Philadelphia

On Monday, April 21, the Lady Chargers went to Choctaw Central for district play.  The Chargers were scoreless thru the 1st 3 innings. Choctaw Central however, racked up 12 runs.  In the 4th, Makenzie Toombs drew a walk and then would score on a double hit by Sarah Moss.  Moss then would score on a single hit by Laiana Cork.  In the 4th Haley Lucas hit a double and would later score on a passed ball by Choctaw Central but would not be enough as Choctaw Central defeated the Chargers 12 – 3.
On Tuesday, April 22, the Lady Chargers played host to Philadelphia in a must win to advance to the Region 3A playoffs.  Emily Robison took the mound for the Lady Chargers.

Philadelphi would score 1 in the 1st inning.  In the bottom of the inning, Haley Lucas hit a single, Makenzie Toombs reach base on a Philadelphia error, Sarah Moss hit a RBI double to score Lucas to tie the game.  The 2nd inning was scoreless for both. Philadelphia scored 3 in the 3rd before a double play from the Lady
Chargers ended the inning.  Philadelphia would take the lead 4 -1 going into the 4th.  Philadelphia would score 2 more before another double play by the Lady Chargers would end things for Philadelphia.  The Chargers would not score in the 4th with Philadelphia leading 6 -1.  The Chargers held Philadelphia in the 5th to 1 hit and no runs.  Laiana Cork led off in the bottom of the 5th with a single, Brysa Maxwell reached on a Philadelphia error, and Allie Brown hit a triple to score 2 runs to close the gap 6 – 3.  Philadelphia would add 3 more runs in the 6th and again in the 7th giving them a 12 – 3 lead.
The Lady Chargers had their work cut out for them going into the bottom of the 7th, down by 9 runs.  Lucas led off and drew a walk, Toombs hit a single and Moss walked, loading the bases.  With 1 out, Lizzie Thomas would reach base on a Philadelphia error and also score Lucas.  Maxwell
also reached base on another error and scored Toombs.
Brennan Power was hit by a pitch with bases still loaded and Moss scored.  Allie Brown came to get a walk along with Kierra Fair and Lucas.  With bases still loaded and 1 out, Moss came to the plate with the score 12 – 10.  Moss hit a single passed 1st base to score 2 runs to tie the game before Philadelphia was able to get the other 2 outs.
With the score tied at 12 each in the 8th, Philadelphia had a runner at 2nd, and got 2 base hits to score a run giving them a 13 – 12 lead.  The Lady Chargers answered back with a run from Cork to once again tie the game at 13.  The Lady Chargers held Philadelphia in the top of the 9th with no run.  Going into the bottom of the ninth, with Fair on 2nd base, Lucas and Toombs both drew walks to load the bases.  Moss came to the plate and with a full count on her, drew a walk to score a run and end the game 14 – 13.
With a come from behind 12 – 3 in the 7th, the Lady Chargers played with heart and a great deal of patience at the plate to get the win and advance to the Region 3A playoffs.

The Lady Chargers played host to Wesson on Thursday, April 24.  Emily Robison took the mound for the Chargers with 3 up/3 down for Wesson. Kierra Fair led off for the Lady Chargers with a walk; Haley Lucas hit a sacrifice bunt to move Fair around to scoring position.  Sarah Moss also drew a walk.  Makenzie Toombs hit a triple to score both Fair and Moss. Laiana Cork would score Toombs on a flyout to left field giving the Chargers a 3 – 0 lead.  The next 3 innings were scoreless for both teams. In the top of the 5th, Lizzie Thomas hit a single, Brennan Power walked, and Allie Brown hit a single to load the bases.  Fair flew out to right field to score Thomas.  Lucas was thrown out at 1st but also scored Power to increase the lead to 5 – 0.  With a scoreless 6th inning for both, Wesson was not able to score in the 7th to give the Lady Chargers a 5 – 0 victory in Game 1.
In Game 2, the Lady Chargers loaded the bus around lunch to head out to Wesson.  After a long bus ride, the Lady Chargers were ready for some softball.  Fair led off with a walk, Lucas hit a single along with Moss and scored Fair.  Toombs flew out to center field to score Lucas and Maxwell hit a single to score Moss to get an early 3 runs on the board.
Moss was on the mound for the Chargers.  Wesson was unable to score leaving one on base.  In the 2nd inning, Brown reach base and scored for the Lady Chargers on a triple hit by Fair.  Wesson would score 1 in the bottom of the innings.  The Lady Chargers had a 4 – 1 lead going into the 3rd inning.  Moss and Cork each hit singles in the 4th and 5th innings but were unable to score.  Toombs came to the mound in the 6th to close the game.
The Lady Chargers kept their 4 – 1 lead to take the win in Game 2 and advance to the 2nd round of playoffs and will face St. Patrick High School from Biloxi, MS on Monday April 28 and 29.
