Toy Drive for Blair E. Batson’s Children’s Hospital

Deadline April 30
New Zion Baptist Church is sponsoring a Toy Drive for Blair E. Batson’s Children’s Hospital. They are asking the community to drop off toys at New Zion Baptist Church by April 30. The Clear Springs/Double Springs Memorial

May 4
The Clear Springs/Double Springs Memorial will be held May 4th.  The Rev. Gene O’Brian will bring the message starting at 10:45. A pot luck meal will be at the noon hour. Singing led by Howard Cooper will begin at 1 p.m. The churches are located on Maben-Sturgis Road.

Graduation Celebration for all Choctaw County Seniors

May 8
The Choctaw County High School Alumni Association will be honoring all seniors in Choctaw County, Thursday May 8 at 6 P.M. The graduation celebration will be held at the Choctaw County Community Center, located at 895 College Street Ackerman. The Choctaw County Alumni Association would like for all seniors in Choctaw County to come to this Graduation Celebration. Parents and guardians are welcome to come. Basket Weaving Class Offered

May 8-9
A basket weaving workshop will be taught May 8 and 9 from 9:00-11:00am in Ackerman. Taught by Catherine Williams, participants will make a market basket out of reeds. Cost is $25 per person which includes all supplies.  Class is limited to the first seven participants to register and pay.  If needed, we will offer another class this summer.

Douglas Burton Family Benefit

May 10, 8 a.m.
Bring out the family out to the Louisville Coliseum for a fun filled day. Live music, pony rides, face painting, jumpers/slides, ring toss, cars/trucks/motorcycle shows. Auction starts at 4 p.m. Hamburger/hot dog plates. Guns and gas cards given away at 4 p.m. Any donation for the auction would be greatly appreciated. Baked goods also for the cake walk. Sponsored by Modern Woodmen matching funds up to $2,500. All proceeds going to Douglas Burton Family to help pay for medical expenses. FUMC Homecoming

First Unity United Methodist Church will hold their 3rd Annual Homecoming Celebration on May 24 at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Dr. I.D. Thompson. 4-H Fundraisers

4-H is selling Dawg Bites cookbooks for $10 and chances on a $50 Wal-Mart gift card ($1 each or 6 for $5) to raise money to send 4-H’ers to summer contests. These are available at the Extension Office or from 4-H members. For information, call the Choctaw County 4-H office at 285-6337.

The newly published Choctaw County Resource Guide is available free of charge to all residents of Choctaw County. These are limited to one per household and are available at the Choctaw County Extension Office in the Courthouse Annex. For information, call the Extension Office at 285-6337.

Knitting/Crochet group meetings

Full Circle Knitting/Crochet group meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m.at the Choctaw County Extension Office in Ackerman.  The public is invited to attend. For more information contact the Choctaw County Extension Office at 285-6337.

Billy Joe Box Fiddle Contest

June 7, 1 p.m.
The Billy Joe Box Fiddle Contest will be held during the Choctaw Co. Pine Tree Music Festival on June 7 at 1 p.m. Registration begins at noon, with a junior division (age 17 & under) and adult division (18+). $400 in cash prizes. No entry fee for contestants, all musicians to perform two songs (hoedown & waltz) not to exceed two minutes. Contest judged by competent and qualified musicians. Choctaw Co. Medical Foundation Annual Meeting

May 6, 7 p.m.
Please join us on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 7pm at the Choctaw County Community Center in Ackerman for our Annual Meeting. All of our dues paying members will also have the opportunity to vote at this meeting. Dues are still $25 per individual and $100 for a business. French Camp Pioneer Day

Saturday, May 10, 2014
It’s a fun day for the family at French Camp filled with live music, crafts, dancing, cooking and more. Enjoy activities from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.
