From press & staff reports
French Camp Academy, The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce, and Camp of the Rising Sun are excited to be the sponsoring charities of the Runnin’ for the Hills 5K. They’ve designed a run that is family-friendly and great for all ages. The new route is a fun one, but anyone can do it – you can register as either a runner or a walker. Strap on your kicks to run and see the hills of Choctaw County up close and personal, and enjoy picturesque scenery of Ackerman.
The event will take place during the Pine Tree Music Festival on June 7. Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m., with the race beginning at 7:30 a.m. To pick up a registration packet early, you can visit the Chamber of Commerce in Ackerman on June 6 from 2-5 p.m. You may also register as a “Ghost Runner”, where a person can support FCA without running in the race by paying $20. If you register as a “Ghost Runner” on race day, it will be $25.
A new feature of this year’s run includes $50 cash prizes to each of the overall male and female runners and walkers, courtesy of Ackerman Mayor Dick Cain. They’ll also have some neat age division awards that will be given out during the festival’s opening ceremonies. The age divisions for Male/Female 5K Run are: 15 & under, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+. The age divisions for Male/Female 5K Walk are: 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+.
Registrations will be accepted until race day, but if runners want to be guaranteed a t-shirt, they need to register by May 17th. Registration is available online at www.pinetreemusicfest.com or using a mail-in form available at the Chamber of Commerce. Lodging is also available in French Camp for this event.
