A very young and talented Choctaw County High School golf team finished third in the Region 5-3A Golf Tournament held at Forest Country Club in Forest last Wednesday.
“Overall, I was very well pleased with the way we finished the season,” said CCHS head golf coach Gary Beals. “At the end of last year, I was worried about having enough players to have a team, but a lot of young players stepped up and really have a good future.”
The CCHS team fired a team score of 409, with Forest winning the region tourney and qualifying for the MHSAA Class 3A State Golf Tournament. Kent Vaughn carded a 91 to lead Choctaw County, while Dylan Jones had a 102. Jones is the lone senior on the team, while Vaughn is a junior.
Also making up the team were Tres Gammil, Adam Threadgill, Jacob Makamson, Kindal Gammil, Spencer Power and Preston Payne.
