Fresh off a victory in a tri-match at Louisville Country Club last Thursday, the Choctaw County Golf Team was looking to shoot it’s best scores of the season when they took part in the Region 5-3A Tournament at Forest Country Club.

Weather permitting, the 18-hole event was set to start on Tuesday. The Chargers shot a 403 to win the event at LCC against Nanih Waiya and Winona last week. “That was our first 18-hole match and I thought we really struggled,” said CCHS head golf coach Gary Beals. “It was hot and that had an affect of us. We really need to work to get our scores down as a team this week.”

In order to advance to the MHSAA Class 3A state Tournament the Chargers will need to be one of the top two teams in the district event and also shoot a qualifying score of at least 375. The top two individual golfers not on a qualifying team will also move on to the state tourney.

Competing in the Region 5-3A Tournament along with CCHS will be Southeast Lauderdale, Forest, Choctaw Central, Philadelphia and Winona.

Kent Vaughn fired an 84 to take medalist honors in the match at Louisville Country Club last week, while Tres Gammil carded a 97, Dylan Jones a 108, and Kindal Gammil a 114. Adam Threadgill had a 120 for the Chargers.
