As far as Choctaw County High School head baseball coach Andy Young is concerned, there is no doubt how important this week is to his Chargers.
“This is a big week,” Young said. “This will decide whether we will be playing later in April or May or if we are going fishing by then.”
The Chargers, who entered the week at 0-3 in region play, was set to host Forest on Tuesday and Philadelphia on Friday in a pair of league contests. Last week Choctaw County dropped an 8-7 decision to Raleigh and had a game against Choctaw Central rained out.
Choctaw County scored seven runs in the second inning of the road game against Raleigh and led the Lions 7-1 after five innings. But Raleigh scored three times in the sixth and three in the seven and then picked up a run in the bottom of the ninth to take the win.
Jamarcus Bradley ripped a two-run homer for the Chargers in the game, while Logan Black ripped a double off the center field wall.
“We just couldn’t finish the game out,” Young said. “That’s the second time that’s happened in a division game.”
