The Choctaw County Lady Chargers loaded the bus on Monday, March 24 for along ride to Raleigh for district play action. In the JV game, the young Chargers defeated Raleigh 4 -2 with Abbie Paten and Shakeria Smith each getting hits in the game. Lizzie Thomas and Halle Ruth Stevenson each had pitching time.
In the Varsity game, the Lady Chargers could not get the bats swining in the 1st as Raleigh took an early 3 – 0 lead. Laiana Cork led off in the 2nd inning with a single, followed by Brysa Maxwell and Allie Brown, also with singles. The Lady Chargers came up with 3 runs in the inning to tie the game. The Chargers and Raleigh would each add a run in the 3rd and 4th inning. The 5th and 6th innings were scoreless for both.
In the top of the 7th, Brown reached base on an error and Emily Robison, senior pitcher, in the game drew a walk. Each would score on Raleigh errors, giving the Chargers a 6 – 4 lead. Makenzie Toombs came to the mound in the bottom of the 7th. Raleigh was unable to score leaving a running on base to end the game
On Thursday, the Lady Chargers hosted Choctaw Central for another district matchup. Makenzie Toombs was on the mound for the Chargers.
The Chargers could not get things going for them at the plate, with Toombs having the only hit in the game as Choctaw Central defeated the Chargers 7 – 0. In JV action, Choctaw Central took an early 5 – 0 lead but was unable to hold on to the lead as the young Chargers came back and defeated Choctaw Central 8-6 as a final. Games scheduled for Friday and Saturday were cancelled due to rain.
The Chargers will travel to SE Lauderale and Philadelphia this week for more district matchups and will host Louisville in a non-conference game on Tuesday. Come out and support the Chargers.
