NARFE Will Meet

March 27

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will meet Thursday, March 27 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Starkville.  Doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch is served at 11:30. Mrs. Angie McGinnis, former Circuit Clerk of Oktibbeha County and Regional Coordinator for Voter ID for the Mississippi Secretary of State will be the speaker.

Landscape & Gardening Problems to Watch For

Noon-1 p.m. Choctaw County Extension Office by interactive video. Dr. Clarissa Balbalian will give a brief overview of landscape and garden diseases that might be expected this year, how to anticipate them, and how to prevent or manage them. Seed Starting 101

Seed Starting 101 will be presented on Saturday, March 29 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Dorman Greenhouses on the MSU campus. Learn how to prepare soil; control, temperature and light; transplant and avoid diseases, plus more tips and techniques for starting your own annual vegetables, herbs and flowers from seed in this hands on workshop. Choctaw County Homecoming for The Blackwood Brothers Quartet

Joyful Noise Quartet invites you to a Choctaw County Homecoming for the legendary Blackwood Brothers Quartet.  The history of The Blackwood Brothers Quartet began in 1934 in Choctaw County. 5K Run to benefit Wounded Warriors

GFWC 20th Century Club of Ackerman is sponsoring a 5K Run to benefit Wounded Warriors on Saturday, March 29 at 8am and a Kid’s Fun Run at 9am in downtown Ackerman. Joyful Noise Quartet to perform at ACOG

First Unity UMC of Weir invites the community to attend their Annual Appreciation Day Program for their pastor, Rev. Lyndon B. and First Lady Thelma Geeter. The Choctaw County Extension Service will offer a Pesticide Applicator’s Training at 9 am on Monday, March 31 at the Choctaw County Library in Ackerman. There is a $10 training course fee. Yarn Spinners Book Club

The Choctaw County Flea Market will be held Saturday, April 5 in Ackerman from 8 am – 2 pm. There is no vendor fee. Chasitee’s Charity Benefit

April 5, 4 p.m.

A benefit for Choctaw County resident Chasitee Dean Pullen, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, will be held at the Simpson Fire Dept. on April 5 at 4 p.m. There will be a cakewalk, kids zone, face painting, BBQ and hot dogs & much more. Easter Sale

Come join us for our Easter Craft & Bake Sale on April 5 from 8 a.m.-noon in the Fellowship Hall of the Mathiston United Methodist Church. The church is located on Hwy 15 in Mathiston. Delicious home baked goodies and beautiful Easter crafts as well as white elephant items will be available. This event is sponsored by the United Methodist Women.

Raising and Show Rabbits April 7

Ladies Conference

April 12, 5 p.m.

Providence Baptist Church’s 8th Annual Ladies Conference will be held on Saturday evening, April 12 at 5 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Our program will feature Karen Peck and New River, a 3-time Grammy Award nominated and 2-time GMA Dove Award (Winning Southern Gospel Group). Come and enjoy this special treat with us. Millspring MBC Revival

April 13-15

MILLSPRING M.B.C., Weir-Revival Services will begin a three night revival beginning, Sunday April 13 at 3p.m. and Monday and Tuesday April 14-15 at 7 p.m. nightly.  These services will be healing and deliverance services.  Our Evangelists for the week will be Dr. Yan Ventur, a native of South Africa.  All surrounding churches and communities are invited to attend.  Dr. Vincent Coleman is the Pastor of Milllspring M.B.C.

Ackerman School Reunion

Saturday, April 26, 2014, is the date for the 16th annual Ackerman School Reunion at the Ty Cobb Complex. Registration begins at Noon and the program at 2 p.m. The annual event is for former classmates, teachers, coaches, administrators and friends. There is no charge for the event. Choctaw County Historical & Genealogical Society invite you to join us on the April 28 at 10:20 at ENON CEMETERY.  Our guest presenter will be Mariah Smith Morgan from Mississippi State and her program will be GPS for Cemeteries.  It’s called Graveyard Technology is Spook-TECHular; using technology to map local cemeteries.  We will meet at the cemetery and hope to be done by noon.  See you there!

Kids’ Fishing Rodeo

The Kids’ Fishing Rodeo at Choctaw Lake will be Saturday, April 12 for children ages 15 and under. Registration at 8 a.m., opening ceremony at 8:45 a.m. and fishing from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Bring your own pole, bait and stringer. Lunch will be provided for the children. Call 662-285-3778 with questions.
