Spring break gives Lady Chargers time on the field

Spring Break for the Choctaw County Lady Chargers began with 2 days of softball in Kosciusko at the Spring Break Classic.

On Monday they had a double header with Winona and Ridgeland.  In the 1st game against Winona, the Lady Chargers started out with singles by Sarah Moss, Haley Lucas, and Emily Robison and would take an early 1-0 lead.  Moss was on the mound for the Chargers.  Winona was 3 up,  3 down for the 1st 2 innings.

The Chargers scored another run in the 2nd after Allie Brown hit a single and scored on a double hit by Kierra Fair giving the Chargers a 2-0 lead.

They also scored 3 in the the 3rd when Makenzie Toombs reached base on a single.  Robison and Lizzie Thomas each drew walks to load the bases.

Toombs scored on a RBI Single by Brysa Maxwell.  A sacrifice fly by Allie Brown scored both Robison and Thomas.

Winona came back in the 3rd with a little fire and put 5 runs on the board to tie the game before the inning ended with a double play with Maxwell and Toombs.  With the 4th inning scoreless for both teams, the Chargers answered back in the 5th with 5 more runs.  Thomas led off and reached base after being hit by a pitch.  Laiana Cork hit a triple scoring Thomas.  A single by Maxwell scored Cork. Brown drew a walk, and Fair had a RBI single,  Moss was also hit by a pitch and Lucas hit a RBI single giving the Chargers a 10-5 lead going into the bottom of the 5th.

An error for the Chargers added 1 for the Tigers before going into the 6th inning.

Thomas led off in the 6th with a triple.With Cork also getting hit by a pitch and Fair and Moss drawing walks, they scored on a hit by Lucas increasing their lead to 14-6.  The Chargers held the Tigers in the bottom of the 6th to 3 up, 3 down.  Robison came in to relieve Moss in the 7th after the Chagers were unable to put any more runs on the board.

The Tigers would score 4 in the 7th, but not enough as the Lady Chargers held on and defeated Winona 14-10.

In the 2nd game of the double header, the Chargers faced Ridgeland.  In the first 3 innings, the only thing the Chargers had going for them was a single hit by Brennan Power, while Ridgeland put up 7 early runs of the board.  In the 4th, Laiana Cork drew a walk and Power hit a RBI triple to put the 1st run on the board for the Chargers.  Allie Brown followered with a RBI single.  Kierra Fair reached base on an error and Sarah Moss hit a single to load the bases for Haley Lucas, who hit a double emptying the bases and adding 3 more runs to close the gap to a 7 -5 game.  The Chargers would add 1 more run but was not enough and took a 9-6 loss.

Makenzie Toombs was the pitcher in the game striking out 6.

On Tuesday, the Lady Chargers hit the road early traveling back to Kosciusko for a match up against Union.  The Chargers would take an early lead as  Kierra Fair, lead off batter started things off.  A sacrifice bunt for Moss moved Fair into scoring position where she scored on a Toombs triple.  Haley Lucas followed in line with a double scoring Toombs.  Lucas also scored on a RBI single by Thomas.   Emily Robison the mound for the Chargers with 3 up, 3 down for Union.  Fair and Moss hit back to back singles and both scored to increase the lead 5 – 0 .  Unions was again unable to get anything going for them.  Cork hit a double and would score in the 3rd making it a 6 – 0 game.  Toombs hit a single the the 6th inning but was unable to score.

Final score 6 – 0 giving Emily Robison a 7 inning shut out only giving up 2 hits in the game and striking out 2.
