The Holmes Community College Bulldogs used a five-run seventh inning to pull out a 11-7 win over the visiting Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers in junior college baseball action on Friday afternoon. Holmes fell in game two, 11-4.
With the win, the Bulldogs went to 16-6 overall and 1-3 in the North Division. Holmes was set to host Itawamba on Tuesday in Goodman.
In game one versus Northwest, Deion Ulmer picked up the win. Ulmer threw three innings and gave up two runs on three hits and had one strikeout and one walk. Cole Feazell started the game and went four innings. He gave up five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
Clyde Kendrick, Ulmer, Kyle Washington and Jason Hursey each had two hits with Ulmer having a double. Chad McNeil was the big hitter in the seventh as he launched a three-run homer over the right field wall to put the Bulldogs up for good in the game.
In game two, Kendrick suffered the loss. He pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on three hits with six walks and two strikeouts. Hursey, Brister Dupont, Jared Bailey, Hunter Bull and J.P. Zeigler also pitched in the game. Jaylan Bledsoe and Ulmer each led the Bulldogs with two hits with Bledsoe adding a double.
Against East Mississippi, the Bulldogs lost two heartbreakers, 5-4 and 4-3.
In game one, Hursey suffered the loss. He threw two innings and gave up three runs on four hits. Bailey, Chase Chancellor, Brister Dupont and Ulmer also saw action in the game. LaDerik Williams and McNeil each had two hits in the game. Terrell Hodges also added a double.
In game two, J.R. Hall suffered the Loss. He threw 4.s innings and gave up three runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Bailey and Bull also saw action in the game. Cody Sartin led the Bulldogs with two hits including a double. Hodges also added a double.
The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs suffered two heartbreakers here Monday versus the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians falling in game one, 7-6, and in game two, 2-1. Holmes also split with East Mississippi on Saturday, 9-0 and winning game two, 5-4.
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 8-13 overall and 3-3 in the North Division. Holmes travels to Pearl River on Monday for a non-division doubleheader while Holmes host Northwest on Wednesday at 3/5 p.m. in a division doubleheader.
In game one Monday at Itawamba, Itawamba held a 4-2 lead going into top of the seventh inning. Two two-run homers by Kelsey Kelly and Charneissa Gordon put the Lady Bulldogs on top 6-4 going into the bottom of the seventh before the Lady Indians scored three runs off of Brett Whitlock, who came in the game in relief of Katie Johnston.
Whitlock suffered the loss after giving up three runs off two hits. Johnston threw six innings and gave up four runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Kelly and Gordon each had two hits while Michelle Gregory added a double.
In game two, Whitlock threw six innings and gave up two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Samantha Meadows led the Lady Bulldogs with two hits while Taylor Jordan added a home run in the top of the seventh to pull Holmes within one at 2-1.
