In the March 4 Ackerman Aldermen meeting, the board approved not to grant a sewer charge price reduction for Mississippi Forge, the steel mill.

Mayor Dick Cain said that Mississippi Forge has requested a break or reduction on the sewer portion of their water bill.

The past two months their bill has been $1,400 and $5,000. Cain said the plant is flushing out equipment and they claim not all that water is going into the sewer.

Mike Brasher, Public Works director, said the plant to rent or purchase a special measuring device to monitor the actual flow of water going into the sewer.

Cain said he would like to help the plant but does not want to set a precedent if the water is going into the sewer.

After a discussion, the board approved not to grant a price reduction for Mississippi Forge.

The board also approved:

  • Order to demolish house at 72 Keller Street (Shaw property) after being deemed a fire hazard, risk to children. The board has attempted to contact the family to clean up the property and a public hearing was held with no contact.
  • Annual festival donation of $1,000 to Pine Tree Music Fest, previously JuneFest.
  • Travel for Mike Brasher to the 2014 Annual Management and Technology Conference in Jackson on March 24-27.
  • To set a $50 fee for the town to blow out sewer lines for residents.

The next regularly scheduled Board of Aldermen meeting will be April 1 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
