10 compete for DYW scholarships this weekend

Ten high school juniors are competing for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of Choctaw County plus many scholarships on Saturday, March 15. The DYW program was formerly the Junior Miss program.

These young women have been practicing for dance, fitness and talent with the help of their “Little Sisters” and Ackerman 20th Century members.

The Distinguished Young Women program will be March 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ty Cobb Complex on the campus on the Choctaw County High School. Everyone attending will enjoy a “Proud to be Distinguished” themed show. Admission is $8.

Participants in this year’s program will are competing for outstanding college-granted scholarships from a variety of universities and colleges and cash scholarships. These scholarships may only be used if the contestants choose to attend the school. .

Contestants receive help from their chosen “Little Sisters” during the program. Each contestant chooses “Little Sisters” to help them backstage with wardrobe changes, hair and makeup and morale support. The “Little Sisters” will also perform a dance routine during the program.
