HOSA students at CCCTC compete in competition at IC College

By Alex Robison

Four Choctaw County Career and Technology Health Science students compete at the district HOSA competition in multiple categories. All of the students participated in solo competitions of their choice.

Johnny Douglas participated in the Prepared Speaking event bringing home second place. This competition consisted of preparing a speech on a broad topic and then presenting it before a group of judges. Five other contestants from our region competed in this event.

Alyssa Pritchett competed in the Physical Therapy competition which consisted of a written test which determines who goes to the final segment consisting of a skills test. Twenty-two other contestants from our region competed in this event.

Kelsey Lemire competed in the Medical Terminology competition. This competition comprised of a lengthy test which evaluates the contestant’s knowledge on medical terminology used in the medical field. Health Science I students study medical terminology that can be used to assist in this test. There were 43 contestants competing in this event.

Alex Robison was scheduled to compete in Researched Persuasive Speaking but did not compete due to the only other contestant dropping out of the competition. He is eligible to compete at the state level.

Alex Robison and Johnny Douglas are planning to compete at the state level in their events.

The trip to regional competition proved to be very beneficial even with the small number of participants from our HOSA chapter. We are very proud of the participants from our school, and we wish the best of luck at state competition.
