Holmes baseball runs record to 11-1 on season

The Holmes Community College Bulldog baseball team went to 11-1 on the season with two 10-run games with Williams Baptist College here Thursday.

In game one, the Bulldogs won 10-0. Jason Hursey picked up his first win of the season going 3 1/3 innings. He gave up one hit and struck out six. Clyde Kendrick and Deion Ulmer each led the Bulldogs with two hits. Terrell Hodges added a triple.

In game two, the Bulldogs won 11-1. Kendrick picked up his second win of the season going four innings giving up one run on two hits striking out seven and walking one. Cody Sartin and Hursey each led the Bulldogs with two hits. Chad McNeil added a double while LaDerik Williams legged out a triple.

The Bulldogs return to action on March 7-9 in Pensacola at the Pensacola State Spring Break NJCAA Tournament. Holmes will be a game versus Pensacola and Snead State on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Bulldogs begin North Division play on March 12 in a doubleheader at East Mississippi and then play at Northwest on March 15 in a doubleheader.

SOFTBALL

The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs went to 7-10 overall and 2-0 in the North Division after picking up a 15-0 and 10-1 wins over the Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers here Saturday.

In game one, Katie Johnston picked up the win. She pitched four innings and struck out seven. Keana Wash and Taylor Jordan each had a double.

In game two, Brett Whitlock picked up the win. She pitched four innings and gave up one hit and struck out six.

Leading hitters were Gregory and Pennington with two hits with Pennington having two doubles and Gregory one. Kelsey Kelly and Charneissa Gordon each had home runs with Kelly’s hit ruled a grand slam and Gordon’s being a two-run homer.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Friday versus East Mississippi in Goodman. The doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
