The truth versus television health shows was the topic of Dr. Barton Williams, cardiologist, talk on February 17.
He was the guest speaker for Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw’s “Heart to Heart” speaker.
Dr. Williams discussed several health fads shown on television medical shows such as The Doctors and Dr. Oz, or as Dr. Williams’ calls them “paparazzi doctors.”
He used medical guidelines, with research to back it up, to talk about some of the most popular diet fads and more.
“If I have the science behind it, I can recommend it,” he said.
Dr. Williams refers to himself as a “horse and buggy doctor” because he travels to rural hospitals and clinics to see patients. He sees patients at the Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw twice a month.
His main office is the Liberty Hearth Center in Columbus.
