Cecil Allen “Buck” Commander

Mr. Cecil Allen “Buck” Commander, age 95, of Carrollton passed away Monday, February 17, 2014.

Mr. Commander was born in Chester, MS on November 15, 1918, the son of the late Edward Mitchell Commander and Ghita McKnight Commander.

He earned his Aeronautical Engineering Degree from Mississippi State University. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot from 1941 – 1945, during WWII. After he was discharged he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration and then the International Civil Aeronautics Organization. He was a member of the Faith Explorers Sunday School Class, formerly the Christian Fellowship Class.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille S. Commander of Carrollton; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Beverly Commander of Lineville, AL, Walter and Lynn Commander of Powder Springs, GA, Thomas Commander of Palmetto, GA, James and Sharon Commander of Sweetwater, NJ; grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Debby Commander, Jr., Charlotte and Ben Causey, Rachael, Julia, John Allen and Sara Commander; great grandchildren, Britney, Michael Commander III, Victoria and Nick Formico; and great great grandchild, Makenzie Burton. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Flavia S. Commander; and daughter, Susan Lee Commander Cortez.

Family will receive friends at the Carrollton First United Methodist Church Gathering Room on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time.

A memorial service will be Saturday, February 22 at 2 p.m. at the Carrollton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerry Davis and Dr. Dean Milford officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Autumn Square Assisted Living, members of the Carrollton Kiwanis Golden K, and the Faith Explorers Sunday School Class (formerly the Christian Fellowship Class).

His wishes were to be cremated and inurnment will be in Enon Cemetery in Ackerman, MS at a later date.
