The Holmes Community College Bulldogs didn’t start the second half of North Division play off the way they wanted here Thursday by falling to the East Mississippi Lions, 71-63, despite a valiant comeback late in the game.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 10-7 overall and 2-4 in the North Division. Holmes was scheduled to play at Mississippi Delta on Monday night.
East Mississippi led 34-25 at halftime but then the Bulldogs outscored the Lions, 38-37 in the second half but it wasn’t enough. Tamarico Wilson led the Bulldogs with 18 points while Rodriques Palmer had 11. Palmer led with seven rebounds.
The Holmes Community College Bulldogs dropped an 85-79 decision to Northwest Mississippi Community College early in the week. Northwest led 44-40 at halftime and then outscored the Bulldogs 41-39 to pull out the win.
Three Bulldogs scored in double figures. Wilson led the Bulldogs with 17 points while Marcus Washington and Jarvis Williams each had 11. Patrick Banks led the Bulldogs with 11 rebounds.
In women’s action last week The East Mississippi Community College Lady Lions finished the season division sweep of the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs with a 63-48 win on Thursday
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 5-13 overall and 2-5 in the North Division. East Mississippi led the Lady Bulldogs at halftime, 29-22, and then outscored the Lady Bulldogs 34-26 down the stretch for the win.
Carmesha Nalls led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points while Brandi Carter and Taylor Johnson each had 10. LaShonda Wilson led the Lady Bulldogs with six rebounds while Carter and Johnson each had five.
At Northwest Mississippi Community College last Monday, the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs led the Lady Rangers at halftime, 37-31, but NWCC outscored Holmes 38-24 in the second half to pull out the 69-61 division win.
Nalls led the Lady Bulldogs with 29 points while Desirae Harris had 10. Johnson pulled down 12 rebounds to lead HCC.
