The time has come once again to buy new calendars to mark the passing days of the New Year. Memories of the previous year’s blessings linger in our thoughts as we hope for a bright tomorrow. My collection of calendars dates back to the year of around 2003 I believe. I have documented events on these calendars. Although I had a life that predates these calendars there is no documentation to support one. I save them as reminders of where I was and what I might have been doing at that period in time. Some dates bring back fond memories while others bring back times that would be better off forgotten. It’s all part of the circle of life I suppose. You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the facts of life. I think I just inadvertently quoted from the Lion King and the Facts of Life television sit com. Who knew television could be therapeutic.
Last year about this time I resolved not to make a resolution since they are seldom kept. I figured if you set the bar too high, expectations may be too high as well. If you set the bar low, it is easier to achieve the goal. Well, this year my motto has changed a bit. It is to go hard or go home! I am in training to be a jogger. Yes, you heard correctly. It is insanity at its finest, but since when has a little set back like mental illness stopped me before? That question need not be answered since it is rhetorical. I even purchased exercise tights and have been to the secret training location on a few occasions already. The method involves 60 seconds increments of jogging to 90 seconds increments of walking for about 20 – 30 minutes. The increments will increase with time until I recapture my youthful physique or wind up in the morgue.
The New Year is a time to come up with new innovative ideas. The BFF and I have come up with a little side business called Crazy Chairs. We will buy unfinished chairs for a cheap price and paint them colorful crazy designs for a jacked up outrageous price. Sounds like a plan to me since “The Inner Hero” underwear and “Let Your Undies Make a Statement” underwear campaign were just figments of my imagination. Writing is also a figment of my imagination, but it doesn’t make a profit. Heck, I have to pay for a paper. I’ve got a better chance of making extra money setting up a lemonade stand on the corner. HMMM, now that is not a bad idea. I could sell lemonade and give psychiatric advice. If Lucy could do it, so can I. It takes one to know one as they say.
As this New Year 2014 unfolds, I resolve to get healthier, drink from the cup of JOY, love thy neighbor unconditionally, be a good friend, and SEIZE THE DAY! I recently read a cartoon clip of two friends named Pooh and Piglet. As they walked the narrow pathway of life, Pooh asked Piglet, “What day is it?” Piglet simply responded that is was TODAY. Pooh’s answer was, “Oh that is my favorite day!” We must look forward to the tomorrows the new year will bring, but let us not lose sight of the beauty of today.
