NARFE Will Meet

The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association will meet Thursday, January 16th at the Hilton Garden Inn in Starkville.  Doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch is served at 11:30.  Dr. Van Lucas will be the guest speaker and will be addressing Glaucoma and eye health.

 

Kevin Spencer in concert

Soul’s Haven Church is proud to announce that Kevin Spencer will be performing on Sunday night, January 19 at 6 p.m. Soul’s Haven Church is located at 808 Grady Road, Eupora. A love offering will be taken, and refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall following the concert. Please plan to join us for a night of Southern gospel music. MLK Day Observance

The Choctaw County NAACP Branch #5631 will hold a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Observance at the Choctaw County Courthouse on Jan. 20 at 12 noon.

 

NAACP monthly meeting

Jan. 20

The Choctaw County NAACP will meet Monday, January 20 at 6 p.m. at Mt. Herman Church in Ackerman. Everyone is invited to attend. The NAACP meets the third Monday of every month.

 

GriefShare at Ackerman Baptist Church

Begins Jan. 21

If you have lost someone close to you, or know someone who has, call to find out more or feel free to join our group. GriefShare will begin Tuesday, January 21 at 6 pm in the Family Life Center at Ackerman Baptist Church, 185 E. Cherry St., Ackerman. Each meeting will be lead by professional team members specializing spiritual and bereavement support. Also, we will watch a Christian-based DVD with professionals sharing both their knowledge and their inspiring personal stories. The program is free to anyone in the community, so tell your friends. You are asked to buy a $15 Grief Share reflection workbook that helps guide you through your journey. Cool-season Vegetables

Cool-season Vegetables will be the topic of our January gardening program. This will be offered January 23 by interactive video at the Choctaw County Extension Office from 12:00-1:00pm. Dr. Wayne Porter will discuss aspects of growing the early season garden. There is no charge to attend. Feel free to bring your lunch. 100th Birthday Reception for Ella Bright Staples

The family and friends of Ella Bright Staples invites the community to help celebrate her 100th birthday! A reception will be held Saturday, January 25 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at Pap’s Place.

 

4-H Shooting Sports / Horse Club Interest Meeting

Jan. 27

Choctaw County 4-H will be holding a 4-H Shooting Sports/ Horse Club interest meeting on Monday, January 27 at 6 pm at the Choctaw County Extension office. This is a great opportunity for the any youth (ages 8-18) to get involved and learn more about the 4-H shooting sports program and the horse club in the county.

Brunswick stew & cake walk benefit

Feb. 1, 5 p.m. – until

Union Fire Dept. will have a Brunswick stew & cake walk benefit on Feb. 1 from 5 p.m. – until. $7 ALL YOU CAN EAT or $20 a gallon (bring your own jug). Kids 6 and under eat free. Live entertainment by Tom Booth. Members are selling chances on a $100 bill to be given away ($2 for 1 or $5 for 3).

 

Volunteer with Gentiva

Do you have volunteering as a New Year’s resolution?  We have the opportunity for you!  Gentiva Hospice is looking for dynamic volunteers to join our team. Areas of interest may include home visits, phone calls, letter or card writing, and crafts or baking for patients.  Volunteers can donate as little as one hour per week or much more.  This is an opportunity to have a wonderful impact on someone’s life in your community.  Also, we are looking for Veteran volunteers for our “We Honor Veterans” program.  For more information contact Dori Jenrette at 662-615-1519 or dori.jenrette@yahoo.com.

 

AUMC Spaghetti Lunch

Ackerman United Methodist Church will have a Spaghetti Lunch on Sunday, January 19 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Dine in or Take out- enter through the Fellowship Hall. $7adult plate/$5childrens plate. Proceeds to benefit children and youth for their summer trip to Lake Junaluska Methodist Retreat.

 

Travel Baseball team tryouts

Noxubee Refuge membership

meeting January 16

The Friends of Noxubee Refuge will have a membership meeting on Thursday January 16 at 6:30 in the Refuge Visitor Center. Dr. Jeff Harris will discuss the state of bee keeping in Mississippi and the US. The meeting is open to the public and there is no charge. Light refreshments and a social time follows the meeting.
