The Twentieth Century Club of Ackerman met Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Choctaw County Library with ten members present and four guests. Each lady brought her favorite tailgate food to share. To bless the food the Club members recited The Collect and while enjoying the food they shared “Good Things”.
President Susan Shurden called the meeting to order. Secretary Courtney Coleman read the September minutes and they were approved as read. She also read correspondence from the MSU Extension Service-Choctaw County. Treasurer Johnie Power gave the treasury report.
Membership Chair Ginny Lucas explained the history and activities of the club to the guests present. Donna McKay won the membership door prize and guest Jennifer Mize won one as well.
Fundraising Chairman Tinker Forrester informed the Club on the progress of the Christmas Brunch. There will be special music provided by Jordan Box and the special speaker will be Kym Garraway-Braley. Several vendors will be on site for the guests to shop for Christmas. The Club decided to sell Christmas Parade t-shirts with the money to benefit the Choctaw County Animal Shelter, which is the Community Improvement Project.
Marina Loper announced to the Club the deadline of October 30th for the Equal Exchange fundraiser. Chellie Cardone informed the club that she is working on prizes for the 5K run for Wounded Warriors.
Program Leader Cherrie Robison called on Marina Loper to share her meditation which was entitled “More than Meets the Eye” by Priscilla Shirer. Donna McKay led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Cherrie Robison told of the design for the Jack-O-Lantern Jam event, which would be a Wizard of Oz theme that would be displayed on a trailer with the witch’s feet under the house. Chellie Cardone led the Club in a hands-on project of making Thanksgiving cards for Veterans. President Susan Shurden reminded the Club of the November 21st meeting and the meeting was adjourned.
