Night of Royalty: Zeta Debutante Scholarship Pageant

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated (Rho Nu Zeta Chapter) will host its 14th Annual Debutante Scholarship Pageant on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Choctaw County Community Center in Ackerman, MS. The program will begin at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is “A Night of Royalty”.

Five young ladies will be presented at Debutante of 2013. They are De’Allegra Cochran, Akeyla Fox, Sonmondra Quinn, Alyssa Olive and Addie Winters.

D’Allegra Cochran is the 18 year old daughter of Joe Cochran, D.L. and Denise Canada of Kosciusko. She is a senior at Kosciusko High School. She is active in the Big Red Band, Color Guard, Mayor’s Youth Council, Beta Club, Winter Guard and HOSA. Her hobbies are dancing, singing and reading. D’Allegra’s favorite colors are violet, blue and green. She describes herself as Achieving, Beautiful and Cheerful. Her future plans include a career in the Health Care Profession. D’Allegra will be escorted by Jaylon Williams, the son of Joe and Kimberly Williams of Kosciusko. She is sponsored by Gloria Cotton.

Akeyla Fox is the 17 year old daughter of Betty Fox of Ackerman. She is a senior at Choctaw County High School. She is active in the chorus and assists with the youth at her church. Her hobbies are dancing, singing and writing poetry. Akeyla’s favorite color is pink. She describes herself as Articulate, a Beautiful spirit and Classy. Ten years from now she plans to be a pediatric physical therapist and working with children. Her escort is Terry Brown, the son of Terry Brown and Kenisa Purnell. She is sponsored by Virginia Thomas.

Sonmondra Quinn is the 17 year old daughter of Marcus Ford and Bridgette Quinn of Eupora. She is a senior at Eupora High School. She is active in band, color guard and Interact Club. She is also assist with fundraising events within her community. Her hobbies are dancing, playing her clarinet and reading. Sonmondra’s favorite color is red. She describes herself as Ambitious, Bashful and Classy. Ten years from now, she plans to be a pediatrician in her Children’s Clinic. She is sponsored by Akeba Shumaker.

Alyssa Olive is the 16 year old daughter of Arrell Olive and Semone Olive of Kosciusko. She is a junior at Kosciusko High School. She is a member of the Mayor’s Youth Council and Beta Club. She also spends time volunteering at the Oprah Winfrey Boys and Girls Club, cheerleading and assisting with the Cardinal cheerleaders. Alyssa’s favorite color is pink. She describes herself as Ambitious, Becoming and Consistent. Her future plans include college and making her way in the world. Maliek Olive will serve as her escort. He is the son of Levi Olive and Mashea Carter. She is sponsored by Arnita Riley.

Addie Winters is the 16 year old daughter of the late Jimmy Martin, Willie Edmond and Nina Winters of Ethel. She is a junior at Ethel High School. She is active in the EHS Tiger Marching Band, serving as drum major and Color guard. She also is a member of the softball and track teams, HOSA, Beta Club and FCS Club. Her hobbies are tutoring and shopping. Addie’s favorite color is neon blue. She describes herself as Awesome, Bright and Creative. Her future plans include attending Medical School for Pediatrics. She will be escorted by Michael Paul Johnson, the son of Mike Simpson, Jr. and Georgia Johnson of McCool. Addie is sponsored by Charlotte F. Miller.

The Debutantes began their season on August 26 with orientation. Other activities included practice sessions, dress rehearsal and a character building retreat. Akeba Shumaker was the presenter for the retreat. She informed everyone about proper etiquette for using the social media.

Awards and scholarships to be presented during the pageant are Miss Congeniality, Jasmine Russ Essay Scholarship, Creative and Performing Arts Award, Honorable Mentions, 2nd Princess, 1st Princess and Miss Zeta Debutante 2013. Miss Zeta Debutante will serve as a Good Will Ambassador for the chapter through the year.

The public is invited to attend.
