Four French Camp Academy girls posted a time in the low 19-minute range as the Lady Panthers took fifth place in the girls division of the MHSAA Class 1A State Cross-Country Championships held at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.
Freshman Kitana High of Myrtle won the 4K race by more than 30 seconds over her nearest competitor, clocking a time of 16:16.7. Sophomore Savannah Shirley of West Union was second with a time of 16:49.9.
Myrtle easily won the team title with 28 points, while Hickory Flat was second with 69 and Tupelo Christian was third with 70. Natchez Cathedral was fourth, while FCA finished fifth with a total of 171 points.
The top five runners for each team score points during a cross-country meet. FCA’s top four runners finished within 10 seconds of each other.
Freshman Alexis Davis was the top Lady Panther, finishing 31st with a time of 19:07.4. Sophomore Abigail Holman was 32nd at 19:08.4, while eighth grader Catherine Bell was 33rd with a time of 19:09.1. Finishing 36th for FCA was Anna Sheffield with a time of 19:17.2.
Sophomore Alysse Rogers posted a time of 20:01.6 and Brooke Meer had a time of 21:15.2.
Hickory Flat and Mound Bayou JFK tied for first place in Class 1A. The FCA boys had did not have enough competitors post times to be awarded a team place.
Senior Kazeto Lakok had the best individual time for FCA in the event, finishing 20th with a time of 19:11.4 in the 5K event.
Junior B.J. Hisen was 23rd with a time of 19:23.3, while junior Kylan Hazelgrove was 24th with a 19:29.9. Sophomore Nathan Burchfield ran a 24:12.6 for the Panthers.
Freshman Marques Howell of Myrtle blew away the field to win the individual title with a time of 17:05.0. Senior Octavis Taylor of Mound Bayou JFK was second with a 17:43.9.
