Reform Headstart Fall Festival

Oct. 24

Reform’s Headstart Annual Fall Festival will be October 24 at 5 p.m. There will be face painting, tricycle races, sacks races, inflatables and ring toss. Donations of prizes, food, games and any other items that can help make this a success are welcomed!

FYI: Parent meetings will be every second Thursday of every month at 5 p.m. Also, attendance daily is very important to keep the program operating. For any questions or concerns, call Chairman: Courntey White at 662-285-6012.

NARFE Will Meet

Oct. 25

The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association will meet Friday, October 25 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Starkville.  Doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch is served at 11:30.  Cindy Walker is this month’s guest speaker and will be speaking about the Alzheimer’s Association.  All active and retired federal employees are encouraged to attend.

Hayride, Hamburger Supper

Jack-O-Lantern Jam Oct. 26

Jack-O-Lantern Jam will be from 4 -8 p.m. on Saturday, October 26 in Downtown Ackerman.  Participants are needed to participate in trunk or treat, set up carnival games and food booths.  If your business, school group, church or club is interested in participating or have questions please contact the Chamber of Commerce for a registration form at 662-285-3778.  MSU Extension will be hosting the scarecrow contest and pumpkin carving/decorating contest.  For more information about these activities please contact the Extension office at 662-285-6337.

FunTober Autumn Festival Oct. 26

Our first ever FunTober Autumn Festival will be held Saturday, October 26 from 8 AM-4 PM in Mathiston’s town park. Vendor spots are $10 each and are based on a 12×12 spot. Electricity is available at no additional cost. We have lots of fun things for the day—pet costume contest, children’s costume contest, pumpkin decorating contest (bring it by 10 am and pick up by 4 pm), live music, vendors and a bake-off competition! We have great prizes for all of the winners also. We are also having a hotdog eating contest. $5 to enter (up to 10 people) and the first to eat them wins $25! There are no entry fees for all other contests. If you’re interested in any of our contests, being a vendor (seeking food vendors also) or would like to sing or play, please call Betty at 312-8724. This festival is sponsored by the Civic League of Mathiston.

Historical & Genealogical Society Oct. 28

Choctaw County Historical & Genealogical Society welcomes members and guests to join us on 28 October 2013 @ 11:30 in the Meeting Room at Choctaw County Public Library – bring a dish if you wish.  Emory Morgan, Dowser and Lauren Ruth (Medium Lauren) will be our guest.  After lunch we will adjourn to Enon Cemetery for a dowsing demonstration.  For more information call Margie Simpson Gilmer at 662-285-2356.

All Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce members are asked to attend or send a representative from their business to attend an organizational meeting on Monday, October 28 at 6 p.m. in the J.P. Coleman Building.  At this meeting members will adopt by-laws and elect a Board of Directors to guide and govern the organization.  If you have any questions or would like a copy of the by-laws please call the Chamber of Commerce at 285-3788 or stop by the office at 55 East Quinn Street in Ackerman.

Chester Baptist Church Fall Festival Oct. 30

Chester Baptist Church will hold its annual Fall Festival Wednesday, October 30 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Family Life Center at the church. Children are encouraged to dress in their favorite non-spooky costume. Everyone is invited to this fun night of food and fellowship.

Fundraiser for Animal Shelter

Nov. 2

The Choctaw Co. Animal Shelter will be hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, November 2 from 9am-4pm.  It will be located in Enon’s Lighthouse Bldg.  There will be local craftsmen booths, food, and games for the kids.  $1 admission.  For more info contact Angela Paine at 285-8996.

Baby Brantley Benefit Nov. 2

A benefit for baby Brantley Blessike will be Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. until at the Woodmen of the World lodge in Eupora. All proceeds will go to his medical expenses.

Brantley was born Aug. 24 to Brandi and Barry Blessike. At 3 days old, Brantley’s blood glucose dropped, which caused a stroke and brain damage. He was sent to UMC where he stayed in the PICU for seven days. There is still no diagnosis. All that is known is that he has a rare genetic disorder. He is still undergoing tests to figure out the cause of his severe glucose problem.

The benefit will feature live music, a cakewalk, auction at 2 p.m. and inflatables for children. Lunch plates are $5 and will include a choice of hamburgers, hot dogs and barbecue. Donations can be made for the Brantley Blessike Benefit at the Bank of Kilmichael.

 Flea Market

The Choctaw County Flea Market will be held Saturday, November 2 in Ackerman.  There is no vendor fee. Benefit for Tammy Talley Hadley Nov. 2

Benefit for Tammy Talley Hadley, daughter of Denton and Betty Talley on Saturday November 2. Proceeds will be used to cover Funeral Expenses for Ernest Clifford Hadley III. The benefit will be held at Stewart Fire Dept., Hwy. 82, Stewart, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Hamburger plates will be $6 and hotdog plates will be $5. There will also be a cake walk and auction. Raffle tickets will also be sold on a chance for $100 and a Flower Fruit Block Quilt.

Homecoming Services Nov. 2

Homecoming services at Huntsville Presbyterian Church will be Sunday, November 3 beginning at 10:30 a.m. with dinner on the grounds to follow.

Bill Gather style singing

Maben Church of God is having a Bill Gather style singing on October 26 at 6:30 p.m. The church is located on Crowley Drive in Maben.

Treat-or-Treat for UNICEF

Oct. 27

Ackerman United Methodist Church youth and children will be trick-or-treating this Sunday for UNICEF. Their profits raised will allow them to buy livestock through UNICEF for families in other countries in need. If you would like the children to stop by your house so you can donate to this cause please contact Ashley Williams @ 662-722-0166 or Kim Harrison @ 662-285-8052. The children will trick-or-treat from 4:30-5:30 on Sunday, October 27.
