Chamber organizational meeting slated Oct. 28

By Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce

The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce will become an established governing board this month. All Chamber of Commerce members are asked to attend an organizational meeting to adopt by-laws and elect a Board of Directors on Monday, October 28, at 6 p.m. in the J.P. Coleman Building.

By-laws will be presented to all Chamber of Commerce members to adopt at the meeting. By-laws are available ahead of time and all members are encouraged to review them before the meeting. E-mail l.bowman@choctawcountyms.com for a copy or stop by the Chamber of Commerce office at 55 East Quinn Street in Ackerman across from the courthouse in the J.P. Coleman Building to pick up a copy.

Once the by-laws are adopted at the meeting, nominations from the floor will be taken to fill the seven seats on the Board of Directors. To serve on the Board of Directors a member must be in good standing. The Board of Directors will then elect a President, Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer from the seven members. All new board members will be required to attend a new board member orientation. The Board of Directors will set the program of work and govern the Chamber of Commerce.

All Chamber of Commerce members are encouraged to attend or send a representative to establish the organization formally and elect the charter Board of Directors.

Community Center deposit required to hold date

The Choctaw County Community Center is booking up quickly for the holiday season around the corner. If you are looking for a place to host your event consider the Community Center. The facility can seat 300 around tables or 500 in chairs and has a full kitchen and stage area.

To rent the Community Center you must complete a rental application and place a $300 deposit in full upfront to hold your date. Calling ahead and reserving a date does not entitle the Community Center to you or hold your date. Your date is not reserved until a full deposit is received.

A week before your event the $300 fee to use the Community Center is due. If the Community Center is left clean with no damages, your deposit will be returned the following Friday after your event.

The air conditioner in the front lobby, kitchen and restrooms has recently been replaced and the ice machine fixed. The Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development District is working hard to maintain and care for the Community Center in order to make improvements to the facility.

If you have any questions or would like reserve the Community Center, call the Chamber of Commerce at 662-285-3778.
