Jack-O-Lantern Jam will take place on Saturday, October 26, from 4 – 8 p.m. in downtown Ackerman at the walking track and the parking lot on Main Street.
To help make this event a huge success, the support of the community is needed. There are several ways you can participate in Jack-O-Lantern Jam. Decorate your trunk or a truck bed and hand out candy to kids. Use trunk or treat as an opportunity to advertise your business or an outreach opportunity for church, organization or club.
All participants in trunk or treat will be judged for the best decorated/themed trunk. Two awards will be given, one to the best trunk by a business and the other to the best trunk by a community organization. Last year Ackerman Discount Drug was the business winner and the Ackerman Twentieth Century Club was the community winner. Both groups are already working on their trunk themes to keep their title this year!
This year’s event is expanding by adding carnival games. If you would like to host an activity like apple bobbing, a cake walk, dart toss or any other fun activity with the kids let the Chamber of Commerce know.
Trunk or treat and the carnival games will open to the public at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 26. Set up for trunk or treat and the carnival games will begin at 3 p.m. All participants must register prior to the event with the Chamber of Commerce. You can call 662-285-3788 for a registration form.
There are many family fun activities planned for the evening, starting with the pumpkin carving/decorating contest hosted by the MSU Extension Service – Choctaw County. Participants must bring their pumpkin already carved or decorated with them to the walking track at 4 p.m. Adults and children can participate in the contest.
The Scarecrow Trail will be back at the walking track this year. All scarecrows must be set up at the walking track by Monday, October 21, between 4 – 6 p.m. The scarecrows will remain on exhibit through November 1. At Jack-O-Lantern Jam the public will be able to vote for their favorite scarecrow. The scarecrow trail is sponsored by MSU Extension Service – Choctaw County.
As the sun begins to set after 6 p.m. an outdoor cartoon will be shown at the walking track on a large movie screen. Bring your chairs and blankets to enjoy a Scooby Doo episode. The movie will be shown multiple times until the event ends at 8 p.m.
There will be food vendors set up selling hamburgers, hot dogs and nachos and snacks for the family to enjoy while watching the cartoon.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help with the event please call the Chamber of Commerce at 662-285-3778.
