Preparing for Holiday Photos

Learn about “Shooting a Better Portrait” including backgrounds, clothing choices, mergers, lighting and other tips to help you and your family look their best. This program will be held October 10 from noon-1 p.m. at the Choctaw County Extension Office. For more information, call 285-6337. This program is free to the public.

Jack-O-Lantern Jam t-shirts must be ordered by Friday, October 11, from the Chamber of Commerce.  Short sleeve adult S-XL are $12 and 2XL-3XL are $15.  Long sleeve adult S-2XL are $18.  Place your order by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 662-285-3778 or come by the office at 55 East Quinn Street in Ackerman.

French Camp Harvest Festival

Oct. 12

French Camp, MS.  Features a grand auction of homegrown and handcrafted items beginning at 9:30 AM in the French Camp Academy gymnasium. Quilts, pottery, woodcrafts, produce, artwork, and jewelry are some of the items for auction.  The Country Store features more of the same already priced. Concessions are available. At noon the auction stops for dinner on the grounds behind the FCA dining hall, and resumes at 1:00.

Craft demonstrators, musicians, and concessions will be available in the Natchez Trace Historic District, also.  French Camp is located on the Natchez Trace Parkway at mile marker 181, the intersection with MS Hwy 413.For more information visit or call (662) 547-6482.

Annual Beauty Pageant-Mathiston

The Civic League of Mathiston has planned their annual beauty pageant, Miss and Mister Mathiston All Crown Pageant, for Saturday, October 12. The pageant will begin at 2 PM with the doors opening at noon and it will be held in the auditorium at Wood College. The attire is formal wear for from ages 0 and on up. There are 10 age divisions and everyone receives a beautiful crown (boys receive a gift comparable in price)! The entry fee is $35 and includes ALL side events except Most Photogenic. Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University class

Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University class will begin at French Camp Presbyterian Church on Sunday, October 13 from 7-8:30 p.m. It includes two sessions on Eight Habits of Successful Relationships. Revival at Ackerman Church of God

The Ackerman Church of God will host a Revival Sunday – Wednesday, October 13th -16th. Sunday services will begin at 11am and 6pm. Monday through Wednesday the service will begin at 7pm. Bro. King Reunion

The descendants of Ben and Annie Franks King will hold their annual reunion on Sunday, October 13 at the Chester Community Center.  All family and friends are invited to attend. Bring a covered dish, join everyone for lunch and enjoy the fellowship!

Health Fair

The public is invited to attend our annual health fair Tuesday, October 15 from 11am until 3pm at the Community Center in Ackerman.  Drawings for door prizes will be held throughout the event. Refreshments will be served.   The health fair is sponsored by Choctaw County Farm Bureau with assistance from MSU Extension Service-Choctaw County and Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw. Panhandle Community Day Oct. 19

The 2nd Annual Panhandle Community Day will be held Saturday, October 19 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Panhandle School Community Building. Everyone is welcome. Booth Fees are only $5 with no preregistration necessary. Scarecrow Trail

Organizations, businesses, churches and individuals are encouraged to have a family-friendly scarecrow in the Scarecrow Trail. Entries should be turned in October 21 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at the Walking Track on Main Street in Ackerman. Scarecrows will be on display through the end of October. Fundraiser for Animal Shelter

The VFW will meet Saturday, October 12 at 9:30 a.m. at Cagle’s Corner in Ackerman. They meet the second Saturday of each month.

“Business in the Electronic World” meeting Oct. 21

The Chamber of Commerce will host, “Business in the Electronic World,” on Monday, October 21 at 6 p.m. in the J.P. Coleman Building at 55 East Quinn Street. This event is free for Chamber members and $5 for future members of the Chamber. Learn from a business owner here in the county how they have used a web site and social media to drive their sales.
