Appointing a new Choctaw County Airport Board topped discussion in the October 1 Ackerman Board of Aldermen meeting.

Choctaw County Supervisor Board President Chris McIntire attended the meeting to discuss the Airport Board. McIntire said there is no airport board at this time and would like to know the board’s opinion on asking the Choctaw County Economic Development District board to serve as the airport board.

He said the CCEDD board is interested in using the airport as an economic development tool and to possibly build hangers and a fueling station at the airport.

Kevin Null, town attorney, said the two boards might need to amend the original inter-local agreement.

Mayor Dick Cain and the board agreed for McIntire to address the CCEDD board about becoming the airport board.

The Board of Aldermen approved to raise water and sewer rates effective December 1. The average water bill will increase approximately $3.25. The board also approved to increase the required deposit from $100 to $150. The new rates will take effect December 1.

Ward 2 Alderman Tommy Curtis made the motion to increase the water and sewer rates with a second from Ward 3 George Rooks. It was passed unanimous.

The Board of Aldermen also approved: -To payoff the total Town Hall building debt of $210,000 using funds in cds. It should save approximately $50,000 over the life of the bonds.
