After opening the season with four straight losses, the French Camp Academy Panthers have put together two consecutive wins and are looking to see how many they can string together.

“I think they have known the whole time that we were going to be okay,” FCA head coach Nathan Wright said of his Panthers. “But, I didn’t realize how much a win would pick up our spirits. We have really had a couple good weeks of practice and hopefully that will continue.”

The Panthers beat West Lowndes 32-6 two weeks ago and exploded for 35 second-quarter points last Friday to take a 49-6 home win over West Oktibbeha to move to 2-4 overall and 3-0 in Region 3-1A play.

Next up for FCA is a region road trip to East Oktibbeha.

“They have a lot of athletes and some potential,” Wright said of the Titans of EOHS. Their coaches seem to have them in the right places, doing the right things.”

After the East Oktibbeha game, the Panthers will play host to Starkville Academy on Oct. 11. The game was a late pick-up to fill an open date in both team’s schedules.

“I think it should be a good game and an interesting one for both of us,” he said. “They needed a game and we had a spot on our schedule.” That will give FCA a rare 12-game regular season schedule.

Daniel Hughes got things going for French Camp against West Oktibbeha, scoring on a 2-yard run in the first quarter. Sam Gould booted the point after to make it 7-0.

The second quarter saw Hoskett score on a 3-yard run and hit Hagan Box with touchdown passes of 10 and 30 yards. Box also scored on a 2-yard run and Hughes returned a fumble 15 yards for a score.

FCA held a 42-0 halftime lead and stretched out its lead to seven touchdowns on a 20-yard run by Michael Erving. West Oktibbeha scored on a 41-yard pass play late in the fourth quarter.

Hosket hit on 9-of-14 passes for 134 yards, while rushing for 36 yards on six carries. Erving led FCA in rushing with 61 yards on seven carries. Box had four catches for 68 yards to lead the Panthers, while Hunter McKnight had two catches for 24 yards. Corrie Witt had one catch for 16 yards, while Cole Henson had one for 13 yards and Erving had one catch for eight yards. Gould was good on all seven extra points.

Jevante McAdory led the FCA defense with 10 tackles, while Douglas Hughes had seven tackles and a sack and Cortez Johnson had six stops. Luke McKnight picked off a pass for the Panthers.
