Fresh off its second win of the season, the French Camp Academy slow-pitch softball team is set to open district play on Thursday when the Lady Panthers make the short trip to take on Ethel.
“Because 17 of our 20 players are also cheerleaders, it’s hard for us to get our practice in, but when we have the girls have really been working hard and are really improving,” said first-year FCA head coach Sarah Skidmore. “It’s really encouraging.”
Skidmore is also excited that shortstop Carlin West will be back and at full strength this week as FCA begins league play.
French Camp was set to have played East Webster on Tuesday, before taking on Ethel two days later. Last week the Lady Panthers dropped a 16-0 decision to East Webster on Monday, before bouncing back to beat Coffeeville 9-5 the following day. Shea McNutt and Megan Jackson had big hits for the Lady Panthers in the win over Coffeeville. FCA had a 2-7 record going into this week’s action.
After Thursday’s game with Ethel, the Lady Panthers continue district play when they host McAdams on Sept. 30. FCA then takes part in the East Webster Tournament on Oct. 5, before closing out with district foes Ethel and McAdams in French Camp.
