NARFE Will Meet

Sept. 26

The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association will meet Thursday, September 19 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Starkville.  Doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch is served at 11:30.  Parker Wiseman will be this month’s guest speaker.  Please remember to bring your donations for the silent auction.

What’s for Lunch? Back in the Routine But Out of the Rut!

Summer is over and everyone is settling into their routine again. But don’t settle on poor nutrition! In honor of Better Breakfast Month, and a new school year, we will look at easy and healthy options to start your day, and to pack for lunch to keep you going through that mid-afternoon crash. If you have been too busy to stop and get a better nutrition plan in place, this workshop will give you ideas to help you get started. Presenter: Mandy Conrad, Health and Wellness Educator, MSU Longest Student Health Center

It will be held Thursday, September 26 from 12 pm-1pm by interactive video at the Choctaw Extension  Office – Courthouse Annex in Ackerman. The public is invited to attend this free program. Feel free to bring your lunch.

Concert at Ackerman Church of God Sept. 29

Debra Perry and Jaidyn’s Call will be in Concert on Sunday night, September 29 starting at 6 pm at the Ackerman Church of God. The church is located at 8612 MS Highway 12, Ackerman. There is no admission charge, but a love offering with be taken to further the group in their ministry. Please come out for a great night of Southern Gospel by this anointed family group.

5th Sunday Night Singing Sept. 29

Singing at Maben Church of God

Maben Church of God invites you to a singing on September 29 at 11 a.m. Debra Perry and Jaidyn’s Call of Ga. will be singing. Love offering will be received. The church is located at 3965 Crowley Rd., Maben.

Chester business meeting Oct. 3

There will be a business meeting at the Chester Community Center, Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 7 p.m.

Annual Beauty Pageant-Mathiston

Oct. 12

The Civic League of Mathiston has planned their annual beauty pageant, Miss and Mister Mathiston All Crown Pageant, for Saturday, October 12. The pageant will begin at 2 PM with the doors opening at noon and it will be held in the auditorium at Wood College. The attire is formal wear for from ages 0 and on up. There are 10 age divisions and everyone receives a beautiful crown (boys receive a gift comparable in price)! The entry fee is $35 and includes ALL side events except Most Photogenic. Contestants do not have to live in Mathiston/Webster County to participate. Health Fair

October 15

The public is invited to attend our annual health fair Tuesday, October 15 from 11am until 3pm at the Community Center in Ackerman.  Drawings for door prizes will be held throughout the event. Refreshments will be served.   The health fair is sponsored by Choctaw County Farm Bureau with assistance from MSU Extension Service-Choctaw County and Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw. Jack-O-Lantern Jam October 26

Jack-O-Lantern Jam will be from 4 -8 p.m. on Saturday, October 26 in Downtown Ackerman.  Participants are needed to participate in trunk or treat, set up carnival games and food booths.  If your business, school group, church or club is interested in participating or have questions please contact the Chamber of Commerce for a registration form at 662-285-3778.  MSU Extension will be hosting the scarecrow contest and pumpkin carving/decorating contest.  For more information about these activities please contact the Extension office at 662-285-6337.

Flea Market

The Choctaw County Flea Market will be held Saturday, November 2 in Ackerman.  There is no vendor fee. Conference set for Oct. 6

Mt. Pleasant No.1 M.B. Church located on 2058 Evergreen Road, Louisville, MS, will be hosting their 2nd annual Women’s Conference entitled, Women Anointed for Kingdom Warfare.  The conference will take place Friday, October 4-Sunday, October 6, 2013, and the speakers will include:  Friday, Evangelist Martha Jones; Saturday morning, Evangelist Lillie Anderson; and Sunday morning for Women’s Day at 11 a.m., Tammie Tubbs; Praise and Worship-Musical Guest Friday and Saturday, Psalmist Tamara Wilson-Tippet. Ackerman Christmas Parade

December 5

The Town of Ackerman would like to announce plans for the 2013 Christmas Parade. This year’s theme will be Christmas Blessings – Unity in the Community. It will be held in downtown Ackerman on Thursday, December 5th, beginning at 6 p.m.

Homecoming

Oct. 6

Mount Pisgah Baptist Church will have Homecoming services on October 6 at 10:45 a.m. Services will feature Singing, Preaching, Dinner on the Grounds.

Revival

Oct. 6-9

Providence Baptist Church will have a Revival on October 6 – 9. Sunday Services will be 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. with services nightly starting at 7 p.m. Rev. T.J. Jennings will be bringing the message and song service will be delivered by Bill Taylor.
