Sept. 19-Oct. 10
Holmes Community College will host a 4 week QuickBooks course on Thursday nights from 6 – 8:30 p.m. The class will start on Sept. 19 and run through Oct. 10. The class will be held at the Career and Technology Center (vo-tech) at Choctaw County High School. There is no fee to attend this course. Millsprings MBC 135th year church anniversary, Homecoming celebration
Millsprings MBC, Weir, will be hosting their 135th year Church Anniversary and Homecoming Celebration on Saturday, September 21 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. at 3 p.m. Saturday will be an outdoor events which will include Gospel Singing featuring The Gospel Travelers & The Gospel Shepards of Weir and many other soloists, choirs and groups. We will also have various ministers speaking 10-15 mins. each. We will have ring toss, face painting, bouncers for the children, hot dogs and popcorn for kids for free. Barbecue, hamburger and fish plates for a small donation. On Sunday afternoon we will climax at 3 p.m. with Rev. Lee Jessie Johnson, Pastor of Monument of Grace Church, Greenwood. Annual Men’s Day celebration
Pastor Lyndon B. Geeter and the Men of First Unity UM Church in Weir, MS, invite all to their annual Men’s Day celebration on Sunday, September 22 beginning at 3 p.m. The theme this year is “100 Beaus in Black”. Blythe Creek Baptist Church, Mathiston, will have Revival starting Sept 22 – 25. Services Sunday morning at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday night. Summer is over and everyone is settling into their routine again. But don’t settle on poor nutrition! In honor of Better Breakfast Month, and a new school year, we will look at easy and healthy options to start your day, and to pack for lunch to keep you going through that mid-afternoon crash. If you have been too busy to stop and get a better nutrition plan in place, this workshop will give you ideas to help you get started. Concert at Ackerman Church of God Sept. 29
Debra Perry and Jaidyn’s Call will be in Concert on Sunday night, September 29 starting at 6 pm at the Ackerman Church of God. The church is located at 8612 MS Highway 12, Ackerman. Annual Beauty Pageant-Mathiston
The Civic League of Mathiston has planned their annual beauty pageant, Miss and Mister Mathiston All Crown Pageant, for Saturday, October 12. The pageant will begin at 2 PM with the doors opening at noon and it will be held in the auditorium at Wood College. The attire is formal wear for from ages 0 and on up. There are 10 age divisions and everyone receives a beautiful crown (boys receive a gift comparable in price)! The entry fee is $35 and includes ALL side events except Most Photogenic. Contestants do not have to live in Mathiston/Webster County to participate. Civil War Event set
The public is invited to attend the unveiling of a Miss. Historical Marker for Grierson’s Raid will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, near Walgreen’s at the corner of Highway 12 and old Highway 25 in Starkville, at 10 a.m. At 10:30, at the Greensboro Center just north of this intersection, more dedication events are planned, including Civil War reenactors with cannon, period musical performances, and an 11 a.m. panel discussion by local Civil War era enthusiasts.
