Circuit Court sentencings held for county court term

The August term of Circuit Court has begun with Judge Joey Loper presiding over this term.

A new Grand Jury was selected and sworn in on August 19. On that day, the Grand Jury remanded the case of Champa Mallet, who was charged with felony false pretense, to Justice Court as a misdemeanor crime. The Grand Jury finds insufficient credible evidence as a felony.

Also during this Circuit Court term two cases were continued until the next term, February 2014: Charles Randall Burney indicted on Counts 1-XII receiving stolen property, Counts XIII-XV possession of motor vehicle with removed/altered vin and Elizabeth Clark charged with felony fleeing law enforcement in a motor vehicle.

During this term of Circuit Court, Judge Loper handed down the following sentences:

Roger Bankhead charged with felony-unauthorized possession of contraband in a correctional facility. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 3 years to the Mississippi Department of Corrections and after completing 2 years; he will be put on probation for the remaining 1 year.

Dakota Raphael Miller charged with felony sale of cocaine, scheduled II controlled substance. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 20 years to MDOC. After completing 13 years, he will be put on probation for 7 years. Count 2 was dismissed.

Rodney Denning charged with felony possession of weapons by a convicted felon. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 5 years to MDOC and after completing 2 years will serve the remaining 3 years on probation.

Aundrey Doug Hill charged with unauthorized possession of contraband in a correctional facility. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 3 years to MDOC, after completing 2 years will serve the remaining 1-year on probation.

Kevin Jones charged with unauthorized possession of contraband in a correctional facility. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 3 years to MDOC, after completing 2 years will serve the remaining 1-year on probation.

Jeremy Bates was charged with felony burglary of a building other than a dwelling. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 7 years to MDOC. Count 2-felony possession of unauthorized possession of contraband in a correctional facility was dismissed.

Gerald Pritchard was charged with charged with felony possession of weapons by a convicted felon. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 5 years to MDOC and after completing 1 year will serve the remaining 4 years on probation.

William Dalton Parnell was charged with felony possession of scheduled II controlled substance. He pled guilty but that plea was not accepted at this time pursuant to MS Code 99-15-26. The guilty plea is withheld pending successful completion of Drug Court Intervention/Treatment Program and to be remanded to the files. Count 2-sale of scheduled II controlled substance was dismissed.
